With talk of lightweight kit flying around the forum i thought it would be interesting to see what the helmets weighed in at were considering bringing out for next season..
The feature a carbon fibre shell and more traditional EPS liner to them in the guise of our PCS models.

Helmet One- the orange and gunmetal grey shell that weighed in at 578g with our 2010 grill upon it, I would expect this to come down to nearer 560g with a once colour finish to it as obviously additional layers of paint all add weight ;)

Helmet two- which is the traditional model helmet as featured in Wisden last year weighed in at 571g with our 2010 Ti grill. i would hope the weight came down of this model too once the ventialtion slots etc and machined into it.

Would be interested to see what otehr people Masuri Ti and Albion Ti weigh?
-
683 my masuri ti weighs!
-
bit heavier then samuel....make sure it doesnt stump your growth spurt by wearing it ;)
-
I hope it doesnt! its my old shell so may have absorbed a hell of a lot of sweat hence the heaviness!! ;)
not sure how heavy they usually are
-
I wont be using that shell next time i play hopefully so my growing should be safe! Phew!!!
-
tom,any reason my ayrtek weighed 705g. did I cockup using those same dodgy asda scales?
-
No mate these have a different liner to them than what you have got hence why they are lighter! :D
-
Is that the liner I will be getting or a different one
-
This is the one were thinking of producing for the PCS model of helmet.....much more what people are used to in terms of an EPS liner to the helmets and different thicknesses of foam to adjust the fit. Early mock-up as below but will become more advanced before we launch it......as dont want to show all our cards too soon ;)

-
first time I tried to wei gh grill up it came to 378g, I spent 10 mins how my helmet was nearly as light as my gloves:-)
-
So same modern looks, still safer than other helmets and cheaper than the acis...onto a winner i think tom!!
-
Yeah will bring the price and weight down a of the helmets and should still be much safer too ;) dont get the benefits of a customised fit though on this model but as they say you cant have it all!
-
When will the PCS be released? It would suit the level that we play at more than the ACIS
-
Few decisions to make at the moment but as usual you lot get a sneak preview of what may possibly be on the horizon!
Price wise we would be looking at approx £75.00 for the Fibreglass PCS and £90.00 for the Carbon Fibre version i would imagine....Carbon Fibre ACIS is set to rise as raw material costs are on the up but will include a Tianium grill as standard with it. Also another 2 additional helmet at £40.00 and £60.00 maybe added to the range depending on what is decided :)
-
Thats a great Idea for the cheaper helmets. Would the PCS be similar to wearing a Albion?
-
Yeah same principle as the majority of the helmets on the market but with our unique shape of shell still being used. Few twists though to make it fit better than the other brands of helmet still which i cant reveal ;)
-
Vet hush hush ooooh
-
Indeed ;) dont want our competitors gaining any inside knowledge on us haha
-
Junior sized helmets?
I'm pretty sure there will be kids watching Warwickshire and
saying to their parents: Can I have one of those helmets??
And I'm sure you would get a little but more interest into your whole kit range? ;)
-
So this is why you have been so busy lately fair play putting in full 8hr days then will dig in to the golf
-
Junior sized helmet will be catered for by having one size of shell and 2 different thicknesses of wall on the liner to cover size S-L (52-57cm) and the (57-64cm) L-XL.
The liners can be taken out and swapped over once the Junior progresses to the next size liner saving on the cost of buying an entirely new helmet.....or at least that the thought process I have got at the moment ???
Any parents out there's views upon this would be welcomed as to if you think its a viable approach ???
E.g. Purchase a £40 helmet in size S-L then once they have outgrown that size a new liner is fitted in size L-XL for £15.00 to the shell you already have in order to avoid buying a new helmet altogether.
Roco...no nothing to do with that im hibernating as winter is coming ;)
-
Thats sounds like a very good idea.
There are probably loads of kids looking at these helmets.
-
It would be something I would look at as would save money long term what kind of shell would that be for £40
-
Full of them I am.....P.S thats a statement of invention if anyone else is thinking of ripping it off ;) haha
Just strikes me that instead of having loads of helmets binned off once they dont fit, having a shell that can be refurbished and a new liner fitted saves on wastage, money and keeps parents happy instead of having to buy another new product at full price ;)
Looking at a ABS (Plastic shell) @ £40 with the EPS liner i would think! ABS with ACIS @ £60 and so on
-
I'd defo be interested in a more traditional shape if you do launch them.
-
Cool well nice to know there is an interest in the product always help to know there is a demand if your going to spend the time, money and effort launching it :)
-
So is this a definite that you'll be doing it? or just messing with your prototypes etc to see if its viable?
-
no definates as yet, we know its viable but its a question of wanting to go down the route of a traditional shell etc
-
makes sense, if you dont mind me asking, are you finding there a need for the traditional helmet because the other one is seen as a bit too "radical"?
-
the new shape in designed with purpose in mind rather than to look different, the fact it doenst have a peak as such is becasue a 90 degree angle is going to stop a ball if hit rather than deflect it like ours is which would mean a bigger impact force.
the traditional shell was produced as the professionals asked us to look at it as a 2nd design, plus it opens up a larger % of the market as well to people who may see the helmet as too "radical" as you say. The traditional helmet will just broaden our range as such and offer different fitment to people who want a helmet to sit lower on their head.
Was interesting to get some feedback from the older generation who preferred the modern design to the traditional version!
-
i love that far right helmet in the topic pic on the front page.
I would definitely dig into my pocket for that if it was reasonably priced!
-
Too radical people are just worried about sledging and need to grow a pair
-
well its all speculative at the moment ???
it would depend what material you had the shell in as would be on a sliding scale from carbon fibre.....fibreglass.....plastic
-
what so, the far right helmet shape, plastic shell with acis. That would be around £60?
And i would be able to put my Mas TI grill on it?
-
Well that hasnt been decided as yet as to which models etc will be ran with.....your masuri ti will fit to either model though
-
ahh, ok.
I'm sure you will be keeping us updated about it!
-
Certainly will do :D
-
i would defo get a £40 pound one and im sure alot of others would
-
well it depends in which model....... with a £50,000 investment in tooling for each plastic version of a helmet its not cheap to set up in plastic
-
got a few comments the first time I strode to the crease in an Ayrtek. Generally poor chirps (from my own teams mates in an interclub game) such as "cycle helmet" etc. Nobody laughs when they feel the weight...
Most of my guys asked how much after they feel it, and certainly a lower priced model would generate more sales.
-
Got a few look at his shiny helmet but after they felt the lightness etc they were impressed
-
yeh the plastic model would prob be a bit lighter than the premier i would think
-
thanks for answering tom.
personally id love one, i get the concept, i love the fact is easily customisable (somewhere i feel the market falls done massively when it comes to helmets), but, at the level i play i'd just get slated. like was suggested, maybe i just grow a pair and ou up with it, but i already get enough "all the gear no idea" comments.
will keep an eye on any developments
-
yeh perhaps something a little a bit more subtle but with the same feautres may make people feel a bit more comfortable wearing it
-
Will plastic versions (if made) be customiseable? Or stock maroon, blue, green etc?
-
There will be stock of blue, green and maroon but also white that can be sprayed from initial research :)
