Was at skittles this evening down my local pub and thought I recognised a guy from the other team.... I gave it about 20 minutes where it hit me, I looked at the scoreboard and the guys initials were CW...
Chris Wood!
Turns out his girlfriend lives in my town (Over 100 miles from southampton :P) I tried talking him up to play for my team if he's down next summer, would be a good signing!
Anyone else bumped into any players randomly?
-
Hmmm. We bump in to Surrey players quite regularly, but then we do net at the Oval....

Mitchell Johnson. I stayed in the same hotel as both the Australian and Indian teams during a business trip to Hyderabad, India about a year ago. Got in late, went down to the bar and there was Mitchell Johnson and his lovely wife. He was 12th man for the one-day game the following day so was on the lager! Asked him for an autograph for my son and then sat at the bar chatting with him and his wife for 30 minutes about the Ashes Tour last summer, the British Press, cricket touring, etc. Have to say he was a really nice fella and his wife is gorgeous! Security around the hotel was extremely tight, lots of plain clothed security guys with weapons on display all over the place and a ring of them around the players for breakfast next morning.

ive seen and spoke to chris old (ex england test bowler) he has a fish and chippy down this way nowadays

Great topic Ian, I don't suppose this counts but I'll put it anyway... played against a Kiwi recently who spent the whole game on his phone to Brendan McCullum, the whole game except for the hour and a half in which he smashed 140 of course. Turns out they were school mates in Hamilton, Cricket friends in general and are inseparable!

I've always wanted to visit that J-Ridd, where in Cornwall is it?!
Me and a friend bumped into Andy Flower on his way into TB to watch Notts v Warwickshire, the day Bell and Trott scored a ton each. We were walking past the players entrance, and we stopped to let a black 4x4 in, he wound down the window to talk to the security man and it was big andy himself! we said hi, got a hi back, and he went in.
-
Dont know if this counts but was at the last LV match at headingley and got talking to geraint jones, Andrew Gale and Anthony McGrath. Geraint talked about his england days and the 2005 ashes, when a kid asked him to sign his cap he was more than happy to and then gave him his kent cap to top It off. The day Ended with Me getting hold of an old Yorkshire jumper from one of the players :) I'll be wearing that next summer!!
-
I have avoided bumping into stars, except Graham Rose who crashed his shopping trolley into mine in Sainsbury's in Taunton and I called him an "effing" idiot before I realised who he was.
-
Quite a few at various dinner/events iv been too, england team when they played NZ back in 2008...Broad and Wright had the 1st helmets we ever made on to get some feedback, Ian Bell more recently, Tuffers....went AWOL when he was due to give his speach!, Charles coalville, Alec Stewart...when chelsea lost in the cup to burnley or whoever it was..he wasnt happy but we were all giving him some stick as martin correy was the main instigator!
Went to the PCA AGM at the belfry which was a great day as they were all on the booze....playin spoof for who had to down a pint was quite amusing lol
Also meet someone last night but its hush hush ;)

You make it sound like a sleep over tom!
-
It probaly was Pep. Either that or he's had the poor lad in his shed.
-
it nearly was by the time i got home!
-
Nearly bed time or shed time? Haha
-
you seem obsessed with shed's.... i havent got a shed on the 4th floor im afraid lol
-
You can't beat a nice shed mate. So this hush hush business.... Does that mean we could be seeing a big name smothered in ayrtek equipment shortly?? ;)
-
If I'm paid enough.
-
Haha that was too easy Mike.
-
yes im in talks with mike and fattus currently just need to get shirts that are adequate enough to fit them both ;)
-
Can't we just have one each?
-
And... The sledging begins.

Most of the Durham players, see them out in Newcastle a fair bit. Shaun Pollock shovelling McDonalds into his kids mouths when he was at Durham a few years back.
Went to the same school as Roseberry, Westons and Muchalls so i've got across them at one stage or another ( Robin Weston out for golden duck when i was playing for the school side! :D )
-
Not really bumping into to someone but spoke to a couple of Essex and Glos players during their CB40 match. Chris Wright is a good laugh and he had one of my soft mints too! Cheeky git. David Masters is alright too but Ten Doeschate is a miserable (No Swearing Please).
-

Sure was. Australia 350-4 batting first. India 347 all out in the final over! I watched the final overs on a TV at the Airport surrounded by hundreds of cricket mad Indians. Another great match. Watching a day/night one day game in India will be added to my list of things to do before I'm too old!
-
Bumped into freddie a couple of times on the piss in Preston. Once bumped into Craig White when I was playing at Scarborough, literally bumped into Dominic Cork at Derby when I was a kid
-
Haven't really bumped into any where you wouldn't expect, always seem to sit on my phone and call them though at stupid o'clock.

tendo is one of the nicest chaps going! I know matt walker ok isj and have a little chat after the days play at essex. But to be honest all county players sign stuff and will have a chat, makes a change as all footballers are moody
-
I was with my uncle at a club match when I was a kid back in 1994-5 I think. I met Waqur Younis and Rashid Latif at that game.
If I remember correctly it was around the time when Waqur had just recovered from his back injury
-
met Charl Langervelt in the toilet of a restaurant in South Africa. Decided it wasn't the best time to ask for an autograph
-
I met Wasim Akram when I was on holiday - he was wearing speedo's - it wasn't a pretty sight... his wife on the other hand
-
Have met various Somerset players at matches, and have the whole NZ team signitures when they played somerset. Had a chat with McCullum, although he refused to give me his keeping gloves! That was when he was with GM.
Went up to Taunton the other day and saw Jos Buttler and Nick Compton in the car park. Then went to Pizza hut in Taunton where Charl Willoughby was having pizza with his wife and kid.

Haha, didn't see him at first. Then this kid ran past our table and when his mum told him off I heard the SA accent. Looked over and saw it was him, didn't feel it was right to interrupt his lunch to ask for an autograph.
-
When Eng were out in the Caribbean, my cousin went out to watch a few games, ended up in the same afterparty as the whole squad. He's got hundreds of pics of him and the squad, and a shirt signed by 15 or so pissed England players!

Viv Richards

been at a party with mitch marsh a few years back
but more recently Langer came down to watch our team play yesterday for about an hour, the highlight of my day was when one of the boarders asked him why australia are so sh!t at the moment
-
Met Shane Warne a few years back when he was playing for Hampshire, signed my Aussie 99 EC shirt which is now framed on my wall. Pride and joy!
Also met Saj Mahmood out in Didsbury, Manchester and I can honestly say he was a total t*sser.
-
Saj is sound mate played with his brother at Horwich,Bolton Saj is a top geezer always giving kit away to people.
-
None really for me. A few friends have bumped into Ian Bell and have all said what a knob he is, very up himself. Until I meet him tho I can not comment
-
Just wondering how people have got free kit off pros? Do you just talk for ages and if they're nice enough they'll give you kit? Or do you ask?
Just wondering on this one? 8)
-
Think you need to know them really well mate...
-
That's what I thought..
Though some may be more giving than others, you never know ;)
-
Haha true. The majority of players don't get stacks of kit tho
-
Fair enough...I go to Surrey a lot, nice bunch of guys there...may try and nab a Redback ;) (lol only joking) but I guess there's a good chance I may get some kit, I hope. I hope to talk to Steve Davies cause he's a very very good keeper-batsman.. :)
-
Slightly off topic but I played a game with Tim Henman a few years back. When we got there he went around introducing himself! Not in an arrogant way but in a very humble, friendly manner. Seriously nice guy. He hit 70 odd against us off about 40 balls, took a hat trick but refused to attempt any catches due to a fear of hurting his hands! Decent technique surprisingly but it was his hand-eye coordination which was incredible...then he got stuck into plenty of beers with us all, signed loads of autographs and gave away about 5 tennis rackets to kids who had turned out to watch...
Have met Jaques Kallis at the CWC a few years back when it was staged over here. SA were playing Kenya in Amsterdam (Jesus, what a weekend that was!) and he is good mates with my best mate. Another top guy and very funny too....was a bit worried that he would get caught on TV with a few loons partaking of Amsterdam's finest offerings whilst on the boundary during the game. Don't remember much else about it though..... :D :D

Stayed at the Taj Krishna Hotel in Hyderabad a couple of years ago, at the same time as both the Indian and Australian squads, in town for a day/night ODI. Mitchell Johnson and his wife were the last ones still in the bar when I got down there. Asked him for an autograph for my son and he obliged. Sat chatting with the pair of them for about 30 minutes about cricket, travel and stuff! I thought they were a really nice couple, no airs and graces, just enjoying life! He signed another autograph for my son as the Aussie players got off their coach at Old Trafford at last years ODI, as did Ricky Ponting. Michael Clarke and Kevin Pieterson.....total tossers the pair of them....completely ignored all the kids waiting to see them and get autographs outside and at the Pavilion steps during the pre-match period. They didn't smile, didn't engage with the kids, just brushed their way past everyone in their way, with an arrogance about them.

To be fair, they don't really have an obligation to sign autographs, they are paid to play, not smile. But I Michael Clarke did seem quite arrogant when i saw him at Northants in 09, although he did sign some autographs after the game at the end.

clarke gets a lot of abuse from the media, cant blame him for not trying to keep up a nice guy persona in public, he will still get slated anyway.
-
Had a piss next to fat gat in trafalgar square during the 2005 parade, he was really nice, I pretty young and he asked if I played and stuff. Touch off topic, but I got asked to help during a 'coaches training day', were all the middlesex coaches, were coaching club coaches, how to coach, so I rock up expecting not to do very much, what am I told to do? Pad up, and face the bowling machine, with fat gat coaching me, in front of about 25 coaches, my main middlesex coach came up to me and told me to ignore absolutely everything they told me, before all the 25 coaches started trying to coach me.
in fact during this winter ive been coached by quite a few middlesex players, Neil Dexter did a specail session with a couple of us on how to face spin bowling, Scott Newman on quick bowling, both really nice blokes i can honestly say,
Ive said this before, but was mid training session when Eoin Morgan turned up, started wacking balls all over the place, then came over to introduce himself to us, offered to give autographs etc. bloody good chap!
-
Ian bell got married 2 mins from my house apparently today....
-
Turns out Ryan Higgins (ex Zim player) is coaching us for a month or so. Seems a nice guy

his cousin's pro'ing round my end, and says he will come net with me :D
-
Yeah might tap Ryan up, he's only 24 and we have a couple of Zimmers who play for us. Good chances ;)
-
Vague claim to fame, I know a person really well who is the racketball partner of Mike Gatting, and was gonna play in a T20 with him and David Burrowes MP but school had to get in the damn way :(
-

I believe visiting National Cricket Academy in Lahore and attending a match doesn't count, right ?
Anyways, it was in Lahore, Pakistan that I was on a traffic light and the car on my left had a beard guy rubbing it face so I told my driver to move forward a bit so I can see who this is so on the passenger seat it was my favourite player sitting, Mohammad Yousuf! After that he stopped his car and I spoke with him for a few minutes! Lovely guy I must add!
Second occasion was also in Lahore, Pakistan so was at airport to drop my aunt and I suddenly see a talk man with a small kid and when I see him it was Inzamam Ul Haq, couldn't go closer as he was going inside but he turned out to be going in my Aunt+cousins flight and they said he was a top character as well!

Used to work with an agent

Darren Ferguson uses my mothers property services, i dealt with him when i was working for her, he's a bellend.
Mervyn King (darts not bank of england) very occasionally drinks in my local.
Luke Donalds uncle is in my local every friday night without fail.
Dean Headley is the coach at the town public school, we have players that play for the club and the school, trying to get him to play for us this year haha.
Peter Ebdon uses a private cue maker in town for anything he needs doing, i.e. retipping, bumped in to him before and spoke whilst we waited for the cues to be ready.
