Title: Bradbury
Post by: essexarsenal on October 10, 2010, 10:56:37 AM
Looking on their websites, they seem so full of themsealves.
" If you ever had the chance to ask the best players in the world who the single most highly respected and sought after bat maker is"

Who makes them , does the same bloke make bradbury australia and bradbury in england ? Are they really that good that they say all the best players would use their bats if it wearnt for endorsement ?

Noticed peter george used one today for the aussies v india.

I heard some were Indian made, but I know some are also made in Taunton. Don't know about the Aussie ones.....

Most are made in india, by bdm or someone?

Some of the higher end ones can be made in taunton but they are so expensive, guy at my club went and saw his get made but payed the world for something that wasnt overly amazing! the indian ones are so square too!!

My friend is sponsored by Bradbury and his bats are big and light but never last long, he has the £220 bat nad it keeps breaking on him. Softs are very nicce though.

Saw a load of Bradburys in Romida Sports, Rochdale at xmas time and wasn't impressed with any and must have picked up at least 10. Pick up felt bottom heavy and they seemed as wide as a barn door! But as Colesy said softs are impressive!

are they factory made then or is it like the CA batmaking vid ??
Title: Re: Bradbury
Post by: peplow on October 10, 2010, 11:09:19 AM
not sure at all mate, factory made probably,

they seem wide because of the squareness of the edges

Yeah my friend who got one made taunton broke 3 times within 2 months and he kept having it repaired, was such soft willow, did go well though but was pricey!

A guy at my club has one, that is Indian made (well thats what the Guys at PLS told him). The bat goes very nicely, has a nice strip of heartwood, tidy grains and a generous profile. As he bought it from eBay, from a well known seller,he got it for a good price (£127 if I remember correctly), however signs of a seaons use are beginning to show with the toe cracking, and edges cracking up too. Personally, I would only buy British made, but thats my patriotic side.......

lol what brand doesnt!!!!

but bradbury take it one step too far lol
" If you ever had the chance to ask the best players in the world who the single most highly respected and sought after bat maker is"
"If sponsorship endorsements were not such a massive income for these players, what labels would they use on their bats?"
"What did they use before they were so very famous? "

I mean this is one step too far!!

my point is how can they say all this on their web, utter nonsense which fools people into buying their bats but I suppose anyone would do it to sell their products

one of my team mates has a bradbury. The bat seems a nice looking meaty profile with huge edges. However, I've rarely seen my mate time the ball this season. A couple of sixes but most shots seem mis-timed and for a decent batsman he really struggles to reach the boundary. Could be coincidence?

who deleted my post? or didn't i post it?

Anyway, bradbury bats are nice in my opinion and if you go a look through the bats you may find 1 there that justifys the price

My team mate has one, he got it from taunton. I am pretty sure its the ones down from the top one. He didn't bother knocking it in as they said they did it when they got the bats in. It is very flat and square, but it does go!

Australian Bradburys are hand made in fremantle, western australia by an expat british podshaver. Brilliant bats but there are better for the same price.

my brother has a bradbury hand made by paul bradbury and its honestly one of the best bats i have seen.

The bats are not UK made, they used to make a few near Taunton but now the importer is based there, they are tied in with SCS, same owner. That's why you will always get pointed to one in store.

People here are going on about rubbish. Bradburys are made in western australia by paul and sally bradbury. They are great bats and what mots of you dont realise is that not all international players use kookaburras or gray nics. Players like Hussey, Steve Waugh, Clarke, Lara and ponting all had their bats made by paul bradbury, then they put the kookaburra stickers on there bats. Yes they are expensive but they are probably on of the best bat brands in the world.

i was also under that impression ............ there is no way the bradburys iv seen are hand crafted individually in the same bespoke manner as newberys , redbacks etc

just spotted that , what on earth are you basing that on ????? i think most people on here are much more aware about what bats international players use , and the fact that they sticker up there custom blades , possibly over in aus things are different but in england bradburys are generally not up to a top top high end standard .....at least the ones iv seen arnt , the softs are V.good though
Title: Re: Bradbury

Because bradburys dont sell there good bats in england they are an australian company... just like newberry. The australian version of newberry bats are rubbish and your basing your thoughts on the bats by the ones sold in england.

Wilko some of us have been to Aus and i can tell you the bats there weren't that great either mate

Bradbury do have issues here in Australia with their bats.

Particularly with breaking at the toe of the bat, how do I know I was told by staff at GCCC to avoid Bradbury like the plague.
To back this up even further at my club 2 out the three guys who used Bradbury had toe breaks!!

You're talking to a bunch of people on a forum, a fair few of whom have more experience of cricket bats than you can imagine. Are you sure that they all had their bats made by Paul Bradbury? And most of us know that people get their bats stickered up by their sponsors. I've seen a few people using Bradbury, with mixed opinions, and on here there haven't been many fans of the bats themselves. I'm pretty sure Michael Clarke still has his bats made by Slazenger Aus, although I'm sure someone here will correct me..

I get the impression that a few years ago when Bradbury only produced top grade bats they may well have only been made by Paul Bradbury in a barn somewhere in the countryside. The problem is now that the range has expanded massively, 2 or 3 profiles and 4 grades in each. That is alot of bats for one man to make, hence why at least some of them are made in India. It wouldn't surprise me if the top grade bats were still made by him but unfortunately the special artisan element that once made the brand attractive has now been so diluted that it has lost all it's appeal.

M&H say similar things also and I dont doubt its true in their case either ....Nothing wrong in bigging up your brand!

I am of the opinion that Bradbury, Newbery, GM, GN, Kookaburra, Puma, Adidas etc. fall into the same category - with some of their bats (mostly for their sponsored players) being handmade but the majority of them would be machine made and hand finished. The lower grade bats would be contracted out to companies in India. I would be surprised if the 4000 - 5000 top end bats that these companies sell globally would be hand made. Assuming it takes 2-3 hours to make a bat, it would mean a bat maker like Tim or Paul would spend 8000-15000 hours making bats each year, which is not possible as there are only 8,760 hours in a year.

This is not the case (i assume so) with M&H, Salix, Warsop, Blueroom and other smaller businesses who do not sell as many bats as the above mentioned big names.

Judging by the quality of the grips put on all the Bradbury bats that are available off-the-shelf, I feel they are made in India.

To be honest i would have thought 50 per cent of all bats made in England go through Hove in one way or other many brand you mention i suspect get them there as well.

Muat add i know Bradbury do not make them there

Bradbury are they still going i am sure they have folded..
