Title: MG2
Post by: espocrespo on October 16, 2010, 06:50:21 PM
How good are MG2, has anyone ever purchased anything from them, really would like to get the ST10, but it would have to be some bat to justify 280 smackers, can anyone give any details/reviews on anything they have had.

Have seen a couple, one from one of the Scottish women internationalists when she came up to do some coaching. Interestingly had GM Cannon stickers added which apparently Marty had lying around. Nice in at 2"7 9 ruler straight grains, was well used when I used it, 3 seasons worth, but went very nicely, lovely pickup/balance which is most important

A good bat, but no better than any number of brands on here at a lot less money.

I'm sure he makes great bats so don't for a minute think I am speaking negatively, but unless he does something unique which no batmaker in this country can do, I can't see the point. There are quite a number of makers on this forum and elsewhere who will custom make you a bat for quite a bit less that the figure quoted. I have a feeling he got alot of work off the back of that vid on YouTube and the ST association. I see them in the same light as Laver and Wood and Screaming Cat. Both excellent bat makers, but not so excellent that warrants me paying the premium for their services that the command. If I can get a top bat for £200, why pay £400 for one? Prestige? Bragging rights? If someone wants to spend the extra fair play to them, but I'd rather get two Newberys or Salixs than one £400 bat. Truth is a bat can only be as good as the wood it is made from, I dont believe for a moment that the best willow is solely the reserve of Messrs Laver, Graham and Millichamp.
