Picked up this Hunts County Modulus off ebay for a very small sum. It was described as having a "hairline crack" in the toe, although I'd suggest that that wasn't really true as it seems to have a full blooded split that runs down the face, diagonally across the toe and then up the back. When knocked with a mallet it sounds like a split bat, and the armour face is holding it together.
The question is, is it worth spending the money on getting it fixed? I know it would be a £35 job from Bat Repairs, but thought I'd ask opinions before spending money.

If the consensus is that it is binned, there it goes tomorrow evening! I'll even close the thread down with an image of it going in.....
-
Personally I think it is one for the bin... sorry. You could try sending it to County and see what they can do about it.
-
Ouch! Sorry to say but that looks fairly bin worthy. I'd say ask county or a local bat maker if you have one nearby you can speak to. Pretty nasty crack/split that though.
-
It could be repaired but then you would have a hard dead section where the split was so it would feel just as bad, I'd be interested in buying it for my collection if it is the split face with the foam centre version.
-
could you not laminate the bat ie.replace the front section and glue to the back?
-
It won't help the rear section play better and cost a lot to do.

Looking forward to bin picture...
-
Are you sure the split runs up the face as I can only see 4 inches of it from the pictures?
-
Sorry Talisman, it doesn't run entirely up the face, it's about 5-6 inches up it, and about 3-4 up the back. If you apply pressure around the diagonal on the toe you can move the two pieces relative to one another.
-
I'd be happy to buy it if you were looking to use it, I have a couple of Hunts in the collection of used bats, but would like one of these as the principal of foam injection was unique. If it could be saved I'd be happy to fix it for you.
-
Well it cost me a fiver + P&P, so it wasn't a big deal! It's the Modulus, so I'm not sure it is foam injected? I thought it was simply honeycomb inserts? If you want it you are welcome!
-
I'm off out now but will email you direct tonight to sort something out. I think the honeycomb foam centre is the same thing, I've never seen inside so may keep it whole, or I may saw it in half, pictures would follow.....
-
Talisman, if you are going to take it shout, or it's heading binwards...
-
I'll have it, I'm about to go out for the day but will email you over the weekend to sort the details.

Ok, cool.

Bump Talisman!
