This guy is the greatest Australian batsmen in my oppinion :D and just a good role model his huge, strong can smack any Bowler in the world for 4 or 6 and he use to have a good knock with Langer before Langer retired ;D
-
A good role model! He winds everyone up and is really arrogant! haha
Oh well hes a class play but his drives need a little work
-
Would call him a role model because of his attitude but not because of his manner.
-
Couldnt agree more mate! Got to have the biggest and hardest hit in the world!
-
yh true
-
Your joking leo aren't you. his straight drives are probably up with the best in the world. yet not technically correct but technicality is nothing.
-
Yeah, if it aint broke don't fix it!!
-
I would say he's entertaining to watch but I wouldn't really base my shots around his or copy his actions on the field!
-
who set up the pole at the top? Versus Collingwood & Bell, Hayden would get my vote - but versus Vaughan, Pietersen, Kallis, Ponting?
Hayden is a good player and has played a very significant role in a great team - the greatest? Not in my opinion
-
Agree with you there johnny he was a good but not the greatest tendulkar, laram ponting and vaughn are all better thaan him when on form,
-
I agree, I think the best batsman in the world over the last few years has been Ponting, there is no way why people like collingwood should be there
-
No way sammyboy. He's had one good knock in recent memory no way is he the best in the world at the moment. That tag goes to Chanderpaul for me. He is the perfect test player gets his head down and scores rund concistantly.
-
Mate Im talking about the last few years and for me it is Ponting or if not Hussey
-
Ah if your talking the last few years then i partially agree with you but in your post you said at the moment.
-
Oh sorry mate Ill edit that now
-
Vaughn? is that english bias.
-
Vaughn? he is pants in my oppinion the hasent scored enough runs to be no. 3 in the england squad give it to bell
-
He smacked the aussies all over the place two tours ago down under under. And he is still a class player and the best captain in world cricket.
-
He is a great captain, and when he gets his batting right, he looks top drawer.

That was 4 to 5 years ago

How can Gilly be a better batsmen than Hayden?
Without Hayden, Gilly would not be able to play his risky shots.. Hayden is the rock for me
Best batsmen would be one who performs in TESTS, Odi's, t20's (in that order)?
Stats time?
-
this is hard to judge as hayden was probably one of the best if not the the best opener of all time. gilchrist changed the opening batsman in ODI's and was the most prolific keeper in history in Odi's and tests. gilchrist created a new batting style. hayden had a highly modified one. hayden brought charging the fast bowler into new stead. gilchrist bought back the live-by-the-sword die-by-the-sword. they both hit what there was to hit. both scored rapidly.
In having said all this i think gilchrist wasn't nessecarily the 'best' but changed the game the most. had he not been around people like mcullum of NZ would be harrased by media and former players alike with their styles. I don't neccesarily think that 'best' should be decided runs or averages. but whose to say that it isn't.
-
Haydan is right up there with the best of all time but not the best. That for me would be Len Hutton. Anyway agree with all your second paragraph sambo.
-
Gilchrist changed the game the most of any indivudal that has ever played. he made swinging the bat at the top of the innings the norm, however the biggest thing was having a strike rate of 100+ most innings changed the scoring rate of test cricket.
His sportsmanship has changed the modern game with the win at all costs approach softened in the 2003 WC semi final when he walked.
-
How many people have followed suit with walking though? not many i bet. Also Gilchrist alone didn't change the rate that test runs are scored at as many people still score at under 50. They have increased but that is because of odi and 2020
-
Well sangakarra walked in the semi final of the IPL didant he?
I mean some people refuse to but some do.

Well sangakarra walked in the semi final of the IPL didant he?
I mean some people refuse to but some do.
But knowing Sangakkara he would walk of his own accord rather than because another player made it acceptable, it has nothing to do with Gilchrist in my opinion
-
So 1 person really proves gilly changes the game in that respect when Sangakara is the sort of guy who plays fair anyway.
-
gilly shows respect and 9 times outa 10 he gets it back
-
not sure any of them are great? Bell has the best technique so i voted him, although i'd rather have Hayden in my team. As for Collingwood, that's a joke!
-
I would not mind having gilly and hayden opening my innings!!
-
geez mate im sure anybody else in the world wouldn't either
-
Haydos in 2005 was one match away from being dropped but then scored a ton, shows the nature of his character, bit like strauss recently
-
Your joking leo aren't you. his straight drives are probably up with the best in the world. yet not technically correct but technicality is nothing.
his technique is fine. he has an open Stace with a nice healthy back lift.
-
not deniying colly has had his dips but people sayibg hes not worldclass? scoring a double ton in aus says he is!
