Title: England 20/20 Team Announced
Post by: Watsontotty on October 31, 2008, 04:20:19 PM
How does Luke Wright continue to make the England Team as he never bowls or bats.

Bell
Prior
Shah
Pietersen
Flintoff
Collingwood
Patel
Wright
Swann
Broad
Harmison

Big mistake leaving Anderson out not just his bowling but one of England's best fielders.

totally agree you can drop wright as we still would be able to bat till 9 with andersons inclusion... im sure all side would love broad as a number 9.... and for fielding he rarely drops a catch

I havn't seen Wright do any good for England in 2020's. Anderson has been one of our best bowlers this year and Broad is good enough to be counted on to score a few runs i think. Bopara is a better player imo than Wright and he should be in for him if Anderson isn't fit or something. Good inclusion of Swann i think.

i agree with the selectors on the wright issue.  he is a destructive batsmen and could add some very valuable runs at 8.  provides another bowling option aswell.  don't agree with leaving anderson out though, would prefer him in instead of broad, better bowler and fielder. we don't need broads batting.

To be fair to Luke Wright, he hasn't had the chances to perform for England, he could be a good batsman he's just lacking mentally at the minute, he has the attributes but he is yet to learn that county cricket and international cricket are a completely different game, he needs to work on his shot selection, balls he may hit in county cricket aren't neccesarily going to be hit-able from international bowlers. His bowling is steadily improving, he's hit the gym hard last winter and gained a couple of yards of pace, as Steve Kirby found out in the opening MCC game. In time his death bowling will become the second string to his bow, as of yet he is far from the finished article. I don't agree with Anderson missing out, he has been one of Englands most consistent performers throughout the season, fielding wise he is up there with the best in the England setup, however I can only assume they want the extra batting with Wright or they want the bounce that Broad will get, as Anderson is more of a skiddy bowler he'll come onto the bat nicely for the Stanford boys, where as if you bowl back of a length and get bounce which is Broad and Harmys natural length then you are much harder to get away.

Agree with the bit about the taller bowlers but I just don't rate Wright at all, i think he is a six or nothing type of player from what i've seen of him and I think there are better players in the country who are better than him.

If I was Anderson now I would be so angry, dropped for the first time in 12 months, I'd rather have him in than Swann or Wright.

I Agree With What Slogger Wrote If I'm Honest
Wright Is A Potentially Destructive Batsman Down The Order, In My Opinion, More Capable Of Hitting The Last Couple Of Overs Of An Innigs For 40+ Runs.
I Personally Think His Bowling Is Underused... He Bowls At Decent Pace, Consistentl And Can Really Choke A Team.
My Memory Fails Me, But I Do Remember Him Being Chosen To Bowl The Last Over Of An Innings, When Very Wer Reqired. It Was In ODI or T20 Against NZ... I Think.

I Also Agree With Anderson Being Picked Ahead Of Broad, As I Rate Anderson As A More Able Bowler

whats the chances of hi getting a bowl.... slim to none.. broad, harmy, flintoff, patel and swann and even pieterson bopwls ahed of him.. batting at 8 also... no guarantee of getting an innings and his fielding does nt compare to anderson...anderson should be fuming... wright batted at the top of the order and has done nothing... middle order done nothing and when hes bowled he hasnt been great.. great county player but atm imo not good enough to warrant a place in twenty/20 or odi squad

he bowled the last couple of overs against NZ in one match, he bowled brilliantly then and won us the match, given the chance he could be a great 'at the death' bowler.  we need to persist with him for a while longer

Nor Did I, The Superstars Were Immense Aggainst Middlesex...

Howevre.. Not Sure How Big A Diference This Makes... But This Pitch Is Much Quicker Than The First Pitch Used For England vs Middlesex, Stanford vs T&T And England vs T&T. My Point Being Will The Fact Stanford Played On The Second Pitch vs Middlesex Make Any Difference?

Another 20 minutes and it will be over!

Amazing how well Gayle can hit it compared to our batters.....

Great performance, great to see Fletch play well, top lad, look forward to seeing him more on the international stage, and hopefully will see him again next season, although he did say Warwickshire where interested, he'll make a big impact if that deal goes through.

England were just pure rubbish with the bat apart from Patel and possibly Broad. They all got themselves out apart from Bell and looked like they were trying to hit sixes every ball. I didn't think our bowling was to bad though but Gayle and Fletcher took them to pieces.
In the daily express today they were calling Benn Butt for some reason.

notice Luke wright didn't manage to contribute again, he is wasted at 8, put him in at 6 instead of collingwood and maybe the opportunity to show us the great player we know he is might come, as for Patel, again the rose amongst the thorns in a poor england performance

Wright doesn't even deserve to be in the squad, look at his ODI stats... http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/england/content/player/23460.html

Colly is a lot better batter than Luke Wright, He is also our best fielder which is invaluable in all forms of cricket. Wright is a good county player at the moment i just don't think that he is up to international class yet, maybe in a few years time.
