Hi Guys,
Well about three weeks ago i bought a Newbery Uzi C6+ full blade from Sam (Peplow), being a bat nerd i stripped it down to check out the acutal condition and to renovate it. After taking the Hammer edge sheet of a small hairline crack to the front was found nothing serious just where i should have taken longer with a hair dryer to heat up the hammer edge sheet prior to removal. When i took the toe guard of i found two small cracks where moisture had got in underneath and the willow had separated. So i reshaped the toe slightly and resin glued the cracks then clamped it together for a couple of days.

I then got in contact with Newbery and for ten pounds fifty + two fifty postage they sent me a set of replacement stickers which i duly applied after sanding the bat back and applying a new toe guard. My only curiosity is the bat did not have any Newbery stamps on the shoulder but they still sent me the replacement stickers after i emailed them several photos of the bat. For comparison i have put a Kookaburra Kahuna 1000 next to it to compare the profiles and grains. Both bats have a lovely feel to them but the Uzi lighter weighs in at 2.9Lb with grip and stickers on and is featherlight in the hands. A big thanks to Sam (Peplow) for selling me this beauty cheap it really is like brand new again and i just might use it next year !!! Hope you all like the thread and i have put mallet on bat and it pings like hell and when bouncing the ball on bat the carbo handle does seem to give it more whip and power compared to my other bats. Shame they are ilegal now!!!!

looks a decent refurb, fair play

Both very nice bats, like the 1000s profile.

I had wondered about the stamps but the handle was correct and so was everything else and my newbery gt has no stamp so i didnt think anything of it! Looks levely though mate :)

When did Newbery introduce the stamps? I remember the old Zeus I had didn't have any.
-
I could not tell you how or when Newbery Introduced stamp marks on the shoulder, the lady at Newbery did ask to see an image of them though!! Maybe someone else on the forum can clear that one up but the bat is like new again now and i love the Carbo handle you can feel it flex and spring back when you stike the ball along with taking all shock and vibration on ball contact out.

Didn't they start in about with 2005 with the letter A? So a 2010 newbery would be the letter E.... Pretty sure that's how it works. Not sure what the numbers are? Model maybe?

They did not ever stamp every bat, I used to buy in quantity from the Chalet and none would be stamped.

Keyser old chap tell me about the Newbery handle compared to the Laver Carbocane. I struggled to get along with the Laver one but have heard that the Newbery is different in feel. Thanks Previn
and the Newbery refurb looks pretty good fella!

The Newbery handle is different i find to the laver in as much as when you strike the ball it flexes then seems to flex back putting more force on when you strike the ball!! I find the Newbery Uzi a more refined bat than my Laver for someone who likes to stroke the ball around. Have to say both great bats and if i had to chose i would take the Newbery Carbo handle over the Laver one just a shame they dont make them anymore.

Yes, A is year and it started back in 2005 whereas the number are basically month. If you have E5 then it means May 2010.
Hope it made sense.
