Pretty set on punting for a setof decent thigh pads now that i've come to terms with the fact im not getting any taller than 5'10 :(
Just wondered if there was any difference between the ACE and Remfry thigh pads in terms of quality/comfort etc. I'd be getting a Remfry set via family in Aus, so the price is similar (give or take).
Cheers

Richard - with the exchange rate the Remfry's are more expensive, but thinner, better and will probable last longer
the Ace set cost about £80 and are decent.
Given that you are 5ft 10 - you will be able to get a really good "off the peg" thigh pad set and if I were you I wouldn't pay the money for the custom set, unless you are going to be playing premier division or higher cricket.
Just my view though, obviously

Cheers Buzz, pertinent comments as usual :)
The main reason im considering the custom set is that most thigh pads I try (and i've had a fair few) I find far too bulky and cumbersome, now im not sure whether its due to the style/amount of padding on them or whether its my legs?
As for standard, not sure how comparable our up norf cricket is but i play in the div. below the regional premier league and hopefully for the MCC next season.

I considered high end thigh pads etc die to being 5.9 and slim. I find most pads are too wide and feel massive. But I recently tried on a pair of aero strippers. They are only the P2 in large but they fit lovely. Very snug and adjustable as well. Perfect buy for £35 I'm well impressed. The hip pad isn't as bulky on the P2 either

Good luck with your aplication/trial matches - the MCC games can be a mixed standard, but try to notch a couple of 100's and you are part of the way there...
Not sure I can help much more, I am using the Hawk X-Bow set which I like and which come in different sizes and are about £40 for the set and I don't consider them to be bulky. Other than that you may just have to go to a shop and try a load on until you find a style that suits you.

Remfry every time mate tried both and found ACE heavy and bulky with there terry towling backing.
But be warned i have been caught out twice this season as the remfry do sound wooden well to deaf umpires they do
