He has finally decided to retire and i think it's a shame that he couldn't have gone out with a good series against the Aussies. He has been a great player for India but i think it was the right time for him to go as Dhoni will be a good captain and Mishra or Chawla will get a run in the team now.

I feel this was a pre determined decision but may have been made public now to avoid giving a psycological advantage to the Aussies.
But like Sachin told the Top% know when their time comes to hang thier shoes and will will do it themselves rather than people telling them to do so.
Kumble has never a great talent like warne or murali but a good learner and thinker. He has never spun the ball as much as warne or murali but it was his thinking that gave him an edge over the batsmen.
Great ambassabor for the game and country.

Funny you should say that - I heard a while ago Sachin,Dravid and kumble have the option to predetermine their retirement. So they choose the series in which they will retire and no matter what their performances are they automatically get picked to play in that series as long as they retire afterwards. If they score a century/take 5 wickets its tough luck they HAVE to retire!

Top player, and really nice bloke, really softly spoken a true gentleman of the game.
-
great player, can be proud of every second of his career

Great cricketer - kudos for retiring now rather than get dropped in the coming years and fading out... leave at the top!

A duck for Dravid today, hopefully he will retire along with Ganguly at the end of this test, can't see it happening though.

Yet another great of the game retires and he will be sadly missed.
