John Etheridge a journo for The Sun has rated Swann better than Warne, surely not!!
Being Australian I have been one of the first to rate England's win as dominant and full of class and they will win the Ashes in a canter.
However, in the process to rank Swann better than Warne is to rate Cook better than Bradman, just absurd!!
-
Done, I suspect, to wind up any UK resident Australians.....
-
I think the Cook/Bradman comment was probably just referring to the fact he bettered the Don's record last week.
Swann is class, but Warne was more than just a bolwer when playing. Yes he was the best leggy to ever play the game, there will never be another, but it was his on field captaincy, his aura, his cricket-brain and general top bloke-ishness that makes him untouchable.
Even if he is a bloody convict ;)

Haven't read the article. Is he rating Swann as better than Warne, full stop? In which case he would be patently wrong. If he is rating Swann as better than Warne right now, then surely that is self-evident. One is a full-time, dedicated athlete at the top of his game. The other is a chat show host, commentator, poker player, and occasional purveyor of 4 overs in T20 cricket. There is no doubt that Swann is a better bowler than Warne at the moment.

OK - just read the article. All it is saying is that Swann has a better record at this stage of his career than Warne. That doesn't mean a huge amount. In the same way that Trott is not in the top 5 or 6 batsmen of all time (he would be if you just went on averages).

The sun newspaper Is diabolical but if it winds up the Aussies then lovely.
-
Warne is the greatest spinner ever swann is very very good but warne is a legend
-
If Swann takes another 600 wickets in the 5 or so years he realistically has left, then maybe :D
-
Thats ridiculous I would always choose Warne over Swanny!

Seconded...
-
I think the key thing that has said here was "the sun"
-
It's a comparison of the same amount of tests but warne was alot younger when he had 26 tests as he did not have the years in county cricket to hone his skills he did it at the highest level
-
Not read it either but based on what's being said here, sounds like tosh. Comparing the 'same point of their career' when Swanny's older than Warne was at the same stage is pants.

Warne was so much more than a bowler, as mentioned previously he had an aura about him and always gave the impression that something special was about to come.
if only they had cryogenically frozen Stuart Macgill until Warne had retired! massively unlucky for them to have 2 of the best ever at once and then to have this shower of sh*t that theyre being forced to select from at present, oh well - i can honestly say i dont have an ounce of sympathy for them - come on England, no mercy!
