Got my clubs AGM tonight, anyone had theirs yet?
-
Yeh we had ours on the 25th so got it out of the way early!
-
Has anyone been to an AGM where it has really kicked off?! What do your clubs do process-wise when selecting captains?
-
Had ours last month, resigned vice-captaincy.
-
We just give everyone a ripped piece of paper and then put it into a box and the commite count up the votes. I can see it kicking off tonight, two guys going for 3rd XI skipper.
-
Interesting Leo. at our club, those who wish to stand put their names forward, but then the Cricket Action Group (CAG) decides. The CAG consists of Chairman, 1's/2's/3's/sundays skippers, cricket developement officer and not sure who else. The thinking is that if it goes to a member vote it becomes a popularity contest, and players from different teams vote on captains they don't really know...
What they don't realise is that they have created a closed shop with no f'ing stock!!
-
Got our next month with our 1st xi and 2nd xi skipper apparently stepping down but doubt it we will see
-
Last year we had an open vote,
this year we have had a small commitee to interview potential captains to access skills & they have mindset of the club.
-
we had r's months ago...
we basically read out all the posistions
people put there name forward then somebody has to 2nd the vote. if its between 2 people we have a show of hands
-
That's the same as ours sim just a show of hands
-
And ours can't see how a committee gets to decide rather Han the club members who pay their annual subs etc and form the club
-
Well this is down to poor player discipline & not addressing through the right channels going straight to the chairman
-
thats not to good
as we are a village club and we all have a great crack so we never really have any fighting..
apart from a team mate filling a 7up bottle full of water out of a drain then are 2nd team captin asking for a drink lol
-
Yeh just needed to make a few changes to make sure we move the club forward in the right way with guys that are committed to the club.
Why we took the step to look at a new league for next season, to start with a clean slate & address issues
-
Not sure if it is the same for others, but the AGM was the one night a year a bunch of people who hate each other don't have to pretend they don't...

Sounds like you have awesome team spirit at your club jon!
-
We had ours, only 1 person went for each captaincy roles and there were no objections. I am also now the Youth Coordinator for the club!
-
Our AGM seems to be more club orientated in terms of finances, appointing chairman, treasury and other admin type roles.
Cricket roles, such as captaincy and decided at a separate players meeting, though in the 2 years I've attended no appointments have had to be contested, as only one person was ever proposed.
At my last club we appointed a committee at the AGM, and it was the committee's job to appoint the captains.
It was only my club before that we we had what I would recognise as a proper AGM - all positions voted on by club members. If 2 people stood for the same role then the 2 candidates leave the room whilst there is a show of hands
-
Can't say I've ever been to an agm like that....
-
Ours are the same as what mr firefly references...with 5 adult teams it takes a while tho them! Goes to a vote of all paying members to decide upon who gets the position if two people stand for the role
-
Our club has a comittee who have monthly meetings. This consists of:
President
Chairman
Secretary
Treasurer
Head of Youth Cricket
Head of Selection
Groundsman
1st Team Captain
2nd Team Captain
3rd Team Captain
Appointed Committee Member (Me :D )
Appointed Committee Member
Appointed Committee Member
Club Coach
Usually captains are put forward, and the committee forwards and seconds them. At the AGM, if there is a contested decision there is a show of hands....
Could present a problem as there are 4 potential candidates for 2nd team skipper!
-
Had ours on sunday, kicked off on quite a high level, lots of swearing from older members who don't want us to be as successful as they were. Secretary walked out, not sure whats happened since.. :L
-
Had an awful one last year, have changed clubs since then and haven't been to this years. Last years' involved the club putting in a selection committee, problem was one of the players was ON it, and not the captain. Said player wouldn't have got into strongest XI but for the fact he was on selection committee. Our 1sts captain quit a couple of weeks later, because of the crap that went down. I got drafted in as Skipper, whilst doing Secretary as well. Went unbeaten for about 6 games, then it all broke down because I didn't pick said selection committee member, then a mass exodus of about 12 players occurred, because the men at the top didn't like the fact that our sides were "apparently" all youngsters, even though we had 3 over 40's in our side... Funnily enough, the committee member is now captain of a side that I can only class as "mercenary", never have the same 11, or in fact more than 4 of the same players a week!
-
And then you wonder why the Aussies have problems picking a side....;)
-
Had are AGM the other week
Anyone take up any new roles ??
I joined the committee, took over as fixture Secretary and i am now admin for 3 club sites and forums
Threw myself in the deep end a bit :S
-
