Title: Pro bat?
Post by: AlanB on December 19, 2010, 02:07:20 PM

Three weeks ago I purchased on ebay a new Kookaburra Kahuna 800 bat from Lorimer Sports which was described as "pro quality". The description also stated "special Bats for the Pro's labelled 800 as they normally just have Kahuna". I didn't take much notice of this as to be honest I didn't really understand what it meant, perhaps that the bat is stickered as a normal commercial bat (which it is) but in fact it is something different....It certainly looks special with 11 straight grains, 40mm edges and weighs only 2lb 10oz (advertised as 2lb 14oz which may have put some bidders off).

Have since discovered the word "Dalrymple" written by hand on the handle, under the grip! Jamie Dalrymple is sponsored by Kookaburra. Can anyone in the know shed some light on the dealings of Kookaburra with its pros to help explain?

I saw that bat! How much did you pay if you don't mind me asking? The ccx I got from them on ebay was also lighter than advertised...

Jimba - I think you won the bidding for your CCX 900 shortly before my K800, as I was watching both bats close on Friday 26th Nov.
I won the auction for the 800 by 4 seconds and paid £122 including postage. Needless to say I have left very positive feedback!

Thanks for the feedback. The most logical explanation would be that the bat was selected by the manufacturer for the player, was rejected by him (weight could be a valid reason) and then it re-joined the supply to retailers. I am interested to know if this is actually what happens in the industry and whether pro's names are indeed written on the handle.
Whether this makes it any better or not is a matter of opinion but it is undoubtedly a big profile for the weight and I feel very good value.
Pictures on here soon.

Some further photographs. Agree that with the view expressed elsewhere that a bat is not a pro bat, unless a pro has used it. Nevertheless, I still think there is something special about this one.

An update to an old post, I am preparing this bat for sale over the weekend. Plan to auction it on ebay by Sunday. It is used now but still in good condition.

With the benefit of some digital scales these days, the bat weighs 2lb 13oz
