Title: Pittard vs standard
Post by: espocrespo on December 26, 2010, 11:46:47 PM
Can anyone give me advice on pittards are they considerably better/more useful to have than standard leather on gloves?

The difference between pittard and calf is that pittard have better sweat absorption.

it all depends on your comfort level....personally i still prefer the sheep leather palm....although different types of pittars have diff properties which r beneficial for gloves...for eg. armortan is abrasion resistant, wr100 is water resistant, retains shape and softness ...so on n so forth....

you can read more about pittards on www.pittardsleather.com

Pittards

Start more comfy but do not last long they might keep it wicked for a while but after a few long innings they start to clogg and become very damp with poor grip. Pittards to me do not seem to have the same level of grip as sheep skin or the thinner Indian pittards.
The cheaper Indian version of Pittards are better than the Yeovil based pittards for me in both terms of durability and comfort..

Sheep Leather palm once again start well are soft and for me but once again do not last long but the grip for me is much more responsive than a pittard

All a very subjective opinion and it all horses for courses some like more feel some like less

From my experience i have used two types of pittards the first was the gray ish version seen on the Kookaburra and GM gloves and i wasn't such a big fan too thin and wore quickly, the second version as used by newbery and bradbury i found excellent, a good thickness, and very durable more so than standard calf leather but both feel roughly the same

I think it depends a little on how hard wearing you are on your gloves - I am very light on my gloves (My hands don't sweat much) - but I really like the feel I get from the Ice 850 gloves. I am not sure whether I would go back to standard palms

the ice 850 are part pittard, part calf aren't they? Just the tumbs are pittards? or just the palm, with calf thumb?
