Title: Cricket Manufacture Architecture Project. Help needed!

Im currently in my final year of uni studying architecture and for our graduation project, we have been asked to design a building in which a form of craft can take place. The craft I chose was that of cricket bat manufacture and I am currently trying to learn as much as I can about the process, and hopefully visit a few places that do it to get a complete picture of the work and design a building that perfectly fits the manufacture.

Anyway, I was just wondering if you guys would be able to help me in a number of ways, either directly giving me some info about the process, directing me to any info that would be useful, or even better, giving me some contact details for places that make bats that I would be able to visit. Preferrably places reasonably near to Bristol, that won't cost too much to get to on the train.

To be honest anything would be useful.

Post by: Tom on November 12, 2008, 11:32:45 PM: There's quite a few manufacturers in Taunton from memory, not sure how many physically make their bats there though. M&H are worth a look, they make their bats in/around Taunton.

I'm not sure if Martin Berrill still makes in Gloucester, he was knocking them out on site a few years ago.

Not sure what you would need as the factories I've visited are just pre-fab units the same as most small industrial units.

Post by: hit4six on December 28, 2008, 07:04:23 PM: I would recommend going on the screaming cat website. Julian has a 30min video of how a cricket bat goes from the tree, to the finished bat. The video includes pressing the willow, inserting the handle, shaping, finishing. And he explains each process and why he does it.
