Title: my blue room
Post by: roco on December 29, 2010, 07:45:12 PM
went to see rob today and must say he is a really nice and knowledgable chap we talked for a good hour over coffee about this and that his history at kook and how he got into batmaking etc etc then he started to ask me what sort of player i was and i showed him my current bats then he got a couple of part mades down for me to look at then a variety of clefts from finished to raw clefts for me to look at but after a while i went back to a near finished which i just fell in love with, its a completly different shape to what i usually go for but just felt right in the hands as it has what he calls a floaty pick up as it just seem to melt into the hands, he then proceeded to finish it for me plus doing an extra press which really did changed the rebound for the bette while i looked at a few of kiesetter and mustards bats then a quick polish then on to finding the correct grip set up which with me takes time but we got there lol,the following pics are taken on the i phone as i have left the bat there for knocking in and oiling all in all a top day out and highly reccomended
specs :-

2lb12 with two grips
30mm edges
64mm spine height
14 grains
no concaving
floaty pick up

Looks very nice. Worthwile trip I imagine. How were Kieswettters and Mustards bats: I guess you've got a so-called 'boom bat' then? :) Lots of wood there.

kieswetters and mustards were broken as they were the ones he made them and sent back with comments like perfect handle and copy again please etc plus coffee was nice lol

plus yes loads of wood in it just where you need it as well in the middle

The bat looks great fella. Traditional profile I see  :)
Floaty pick up, not heard that one before but I like it. He does make a very good cup of coffee as well. You'll just have to let me know how it goes when you get it in the nets.

i liked the shape with the big low middle that was done originally but he did say there were some adjustments to be made.

Not yet, phoning him on the 4th to organise a date, but I have just realise that school isn't on on the 4th, so might be able to pop down then. Will have to see what happens!
I just really want to get it sorted to be honest- Never before has father christmas been so late :P
Can't wait!

Lovely profile. But is that almost a third of hardwood? Sapwood grains look nice, but the hardwood's kinda wavy. Anyway, probably just a cosmetic thing. Wouldn't doubt Rob's judgment ...  Most important thing is the pickup and responsiveness. Floaty  :D I like that!!!

First bat I have had with heartwood and it's about 1/4 on the rh outside edge but did not look at that tbh it was just the volume of wood in it plus responsiveness is above and beyond but will see what it's like when I get it back fully knocked in this week

Post by: Canners on January 02, 2011, 05:23:19 PM

more responsive than the sachin?
Title: Re: my blue room
Post by: roco on January 02, 2011, 05:33:20 PM
Was on par before being knocked in but will check when get them both home as you tend to hit the new bat a little harder during the first test

hope it performes well for you mate :)

i wouldnt mind one of these sachin specials either lol

Cheers will see what the performance is like when I get it back I think it will be on it's way this week but not 100% plus got the sachin till then

What you going for this time then?
Title: Re: my blue room
Post by: Simmy on January 05, 2011, 02:50:41 PM
im gonna go for another new wave but with a slightly higher middle for are hard fast away tracks :D

so ill have one with low middle and one with a high middle

gonna try and get one about 2.9 tho so its slightly lighter so bat speed is better with a higher middle.

two pockets in my bag for 2 bluerooms :)

and ill have to chuck the soliteck in the main bit of the bag

Only ever use one bat on all wickets myself but fair play if it makes you feel comfy the sachin and my blueroom will be in the bag for match day I think but using the ayrtek for now indoor
Title: Re: my blue room
Post by: Simmy on January 05, 2011, 03:12:52 PM
this will be the 1st year where i use more than one bat lol

to many good 1's to pick from

my blueroom is still very hard so needs alot more knocking in so will be netting with them untill there soft enough for a match.

the ayrtek will mostly be used for 20/20 i think as its a sweet for smashing at about 2.13
Title: Re: my blue room
Post by: roco on January 05, 2011, 03:22:35 PM
That's a decent weight my blueroom is 2lb12 sachin 2lb13 ayrtek 2lb12 can't tell what weight I like lol

Plus that's why I got Rob to knock my bat in as I hate doing it plus never seem to do it right ha

Different profile to what I'm used to as it's alot more traditional but just fell in love with it so we will see as will have to wait for outdoor nets or a match to use it properly

Yeah fair enough. Let us know in April/May. It will be the same with my bats, as well, I imagine! :)

I'm netting and playing now but don't like to use the match bats in nets plus some people use cheap crap bat breaker balls so best to be careful just remeasured and it's got 29mm edges and 66mm spine at it's peak with a 60mm spine at least on the hitting area of the bat

Has the response off the bat/middle improved now it has been knocked in?
Title: Re: my blue room
Post by: roco on January 08, 2011, 09:50:09 PM
I would say so but you never know till you get it out in the middle how good the bat is and got a great game first up to test it in fast aggressive bowling and short boundaries just the way I like it
