Following the discussion in a previous thread and the number of people in here with loads of bats (I've only about 10 right now), why do we need more than 2? A low-ish and mid-ish middle should suffice shouldn't they? What do you all think ? I'll go in to my reasons shortly!

Well i travel around the uk to play and if one breaks i need another there
iI also change bat depends on the wicket and the game All dayer,50 overs,20 overs
Depends on my form as well i use a more concaved bat when in form and when i not a more rounded bat...
-
I usually carry a couple but only use 1, the others are there just incase the one i use breaks
-
if my opener doesnt show up and im asked to open i tend to use a lighter bat especially if the oppo have got someone a bit sharp......
apart from that i just like to have a back up i guess......
i and i took a gamble on a joker for 20 20 games next season but thats just for a bit of fun if it goes well i will prob start using it in all formats

i will add to this because i like bats and if i fail with one it no good and sometimes goes to the bottom of the pile

I don't need more than 2. Actually I don't need more than 1. However I choose to have more, because I can. Simple as really. No logic to it.
-
Because everyone loves a nice piece of willow and you cant say no to something which a batmaker has spent his sikills and craft on.
-
Sounds daft this but i would rather have more pairs of pads than bats
Match Bat 1 SS TON PLAIN (bought from asad ) 2lb 6oz big concaving idea for all forms of cricket
Match Bat 2 Laver Wood PB use sparsly now due to damages shoulder
Match Bat 3 Chase Custom (batmakers) Just netting with it for now but it will come into it own 2011
Match Bat 4 Duncan Fearnley Magnum (Big beast for 20/20 ) if down the order
Match Bat 5 Watson Classic (MY NEW Bat made last week will be up in next 2 weeks sent it for proffesional finish)
3 other net bats i never net with any match bat but my net bats are of similar shape and weight
-
Procricket you my friend are a very strange man ;)
-
I only ever take two bats with me to a game, both similar weights and similar profiles, one is my match bat which I will use regardless of the situation and the other is a spare bat that I know I get on with and is there as a back up in case my match bat goes during a game.
-
I wish I could just have 1 bat that I loved using and stuck with. Never been able to do it though. This forum is the main reason ;)
-
Sounds daft...
Certainly does :D

No just doing market research my marra i can retire in 9 years and do my own thing
Jon
Not if you know me it does'nt

I have a new, as yet unused SSH Thruxton (2 8)purchased from Talisman, and a back up albion ax (2 '9) which was last year's bat. Would like a replacement for the albion as i don't rate it much, picks up heavy. Basically, would like two similar in quality and weight, one mainly to practice with or readymade replacement if thruxton breaks

Is this still for sale mate?
-
yes i suppose it is mate as i have 2 bats coming my way
-
will have a think.what have u got coming your way bud?
-
I have 3 bats. One, a willostix that I've absolutely knackered up, doesn't see the light of day. I'm not sure where it is. I net with the same bat I use in a match. I sometimes use the other one if I'm in the mood to hit things in the nets, or on a Sunday when I'm shattered from day before, as it's lighter. But very rarely. Shininess, I think, is the reason people have more than one! If there's a new bat, they need it!
-
one special one from Keiron
And another i have not made my mind up yet on
Was due another mg2 but backed out after the exchange rate
-
Iv got a few as people tend to borrow kit if u own a company that makes it as such....brother, dad, other lads at the club.
Use the same bat in nets as I do in a match and if it breaks it breaks....them have a spare to replace it with. Only got 4 bats now though :) of which 1 will be loaned out again like last season I'd think and others are spares
-
we dont need more than two but theres a bit of petehosk in all of us, sometimes you just see a bat and just want it!
-
Ive got 4 bats, a gray nicholls nitro carbo (match bat) a plain grade one as this next seasons and also a hunts custom my favourite but abit too light for me now at 2.6 :)x

The Justification:-
I have 2 bats in my bag at all times. Usually my match bat, and then some kind of T20 big bugger bat if twatty violence is needed.
The Reality:-
I am a truly dreadful batsman who only needs 1 bat at any time, but I am a hopeless fantasist who keeps buying different bats in the hope that each one will make me better.
-
since i have become a batsmen these last 5 yrs i tend to have 3 a match bat a net bat and a spare match bat just incase the first breaks
-
I will be using 4 next year. A match bat, a backup match bat (50/50 use throughout the season :D), Net bat and a middling bat. H4L is going off for the season to some friends I owe for some TLC!
-
I have 3 bats - 2 match bats and a heavy net bat with higher middle.
The use of which match bat depends on how they feel prior to going out to bat
-
Got too many bats. . .only really need one.
-
I only have 1 match bat and I take a spare which I am usually knocking in as my next bat. Old bats either get kept for posterity or given away to team mates or sold.

think that sums it up rather well fattus :)

What we need and what we want are two different things!
But however good or bad we bat, the quality of the bat will always make a difference.
The better the bat performs, the more it 'pings', then the better it will make us feel and the quality of a bat can give us more confidence!! And as batting is largely about confidence, then it is worth getting a quality bat (or 20)
The way I look at it, if my collection gives me and others pleasure, then where is the harm! 8)
-
I usually carry 4-5 bats in my kit. These bats are the ones that I am the most comfortable using and get into my zone faster.
I jsut pick anyone depending on my mindset, wicket (okay or low bounce), the number I will be batting at (3-5) and what is required of me (bombard or anchor the innings).
Sometimes you just feel better with one bat than the other eventhough you know that all are your best and favourite bats. Its just how you feel on the day.....
-
I just like collecting bats, plain and simply :)
-
Just to add..... it is worth spending on good women, wine and willow...... never say no to something that catches your fancy and is available for the right price.....
-
Correct yash
-
Yep - agreed! Not quite sure how I went from 10 bats to around 100 bats, but they are my babies!!
They greet me from work, wagging their handles! It's a total joy! ;)
-
Oh Pete I've missed you the past couple of months :L
-
Pete if I was allowed to spend my money on more bats I would but my parents are like, save for driving lessons, save for car....

Seconded.
-
People often enjoy the thrill of the purchase and the anticipation of the delivery more than the bat itself. Which is why you see people accumulate bats. I've lost count of how many times someone has sold their prized bat unused.
-
aww yeah and knocking it in and oiling it. Love the whole new-ness of a bat.
-
I personally am a bit of a bat jackdaw. I've got some to sell on, some to try (laminate! ) and some to keep keep use. Ok, I'm not really really enough to require more than one bat in a game, but I like to have a choice of middle and weight, just in case.
I have more than two mostly because I like bats!

The wallet. :D
I like having a few because, I broke four in a season once. Last year was good, only broke one.

Try being a Uni student, you have to spend money on food, textbooks (sometimes ;)), nights out, travel, and about 10 new pairs of socks every 2 months, I have no idea how I go through them so quickly! Oh yes, and women, buggars they are, "no you can't have a new bat you can't afford it" Blah blah blah blah. I miss 6th form sometimes :P
-

What - You've seen me bat?
-
noooo. i mean its the same reason i have lots of bats! My new H4L is obviously gonna make me a better player though ;)
