How do you play them (36 an over or less)? Just interested in this one, as was musing to myself...!
Cheers guys, looking forward to your opinions...
-
Depends how bad they are, from what I might call a pie chucker someone else might find them difficult to face.
If it's an older guy who knows what he's doing, but is bowling really slow etc then I'll try and get singles down the ground or just knock it about. If it's someone who rarely bowls and shows it then I'll look to score boundaries but knock the 'better' balls around and not get out, but try and remain destructive against them lol
-
determining the difference between pie chucker and wily old campaigner can be hard as you say colesy!
-
Yeah. I know one wily old campaigner, got me out once or twice last season, but I know how to play hi, now. Same game, there was a proper piechucker, and I just milked him down the ground for singles, rotating the strike etc...I think Leo might know one of the piechuckers I could be referring to though ;)

Charlie Meyers? haha

As an expert pie chucker myself, the best thing to do is slog, and let me get you out caught at cow corner
-
My own way is just to back yourself and your game as if a Poe chucked or really slow bowler I back myself to hit him after a few sighters as I know I can clear the ropes
-
Charlie Meyers? haha
Yeah, I haven't actually faced his bowling in a match, when my mate faced it, he was hitting every ball behind the wicket. He literally jumped around when Charlie bowled and hit to fine leg every time for 4 or 6 lol :)

go big or go home!

Lol, isn't that Canners' personal text. I'm guessing you go for 36s an over then Tom?

having played against a fair few piechuckers, here's my tips:-
1. Patience - take a proper look at the bowler. Piechuckers rely on slow surfaces to stop the ball coming on to the bat, so you'll need a few overs to work out what he's doing.
2. Shot Selection - try and pick up singles, tip and run, etc and initially try and use the lack of pace to "work" the ball into gaps.
3. Go Ugly - it's inevitable that you'll have to hit in the air. It's not always cowcorner, sometimes you can pull or pickup over leg or loft over mid-off. Choose the ball carefully and pick your spot as one may come down only once every 3/4 overs.
4. Footwork - if your lucky and the keeper is rubbish he'll be standing back, get yourself out of the crease - yards down the track for your guard. If your not happy doing that (I've been 5 yards out of my crease but some people never move) a bit of a shimmy down the track has much the say effect. Important thing is it mucks up his length.
Don't - go across the line, slog early, play hard wicket shots.

Useful tips there Nick. That's what I'm thinking too. Have a good look and try and hit through the line of the ball!
-
My area to the pie chucker is usually cover/extra cover or straight best place to hit them
-
Yeah, I guess that trying to keep it off side is best, so many people get out trying to swipe across the line... :)
Though, I think I shall be hitting some 6s next year, growing stronger and using better pieces of willow :D
-
I always find people mow across the line when they have run out of ideas have a think where the field is and know your areas where you can hit the ball
-
Yeah. Good advice. I usually hit through the off side, have front foot leg side play, and can play a good pull and okay hook. Though I can't sweep very well, need to work on that next year, as could be stuck for ideas when facing more wily spinners. How was the performance of the blueroom by the way mate, did yuou get to test it?

Had a ball on bat test and went really well will give it a proper go when the season starts
-
What did you think of the the other profiles out of interest?
-
Could not really say as he got 15 bats down some finished some part finished some raw clefts and just picked out the one I liked
-
Oh right, fair enough. I guess I will re-evaluate my bat situation soon, at the end of the season. I might buy a Blue Room at the end of the season...
