Having spent a rollercoaster of an evening weighing bats (no, honestly) I have been left with a few things to ponder.
I know we cannot judge a bat on how it will pick up on it's weight and shape alone, but in the past it has acted as a good indicator. as a rule, high middle means lighter pickup, low middle means heavier pickup. Basic physics.
Now, here is the interesting thing. When I bought the GT from Mike, he said it was 2'9 ungripped and unstickered, so 2'10-2'11 would be the finished weight dependant on grip type. Since it arrived I have assumed this to be the case, and the pickup was very much in line with what I assumed the weight to be. Now, I weighed it today. 2'9.1 gripped and stickered. Interesting. A bat with a very high middle with a pickup that doesn't really follow the logic. The pickup isn't enough to put me off, not by a long shot, but I am a little confused. Think I might try a havier grip as it only has 1 thin one, and the handle seems quite thin too, which isn't going to help the pickup.
So, don't use the profile alone to predict pick up.

The latest newbery handles seem to be a bit thinner, which i think really does have an effect on pick-up of the bat. Counteracting this with a thicker grip seemed to help with the newbery bats i've had recently.
I made a bat which i weighed once and it said 2.7 - so stickered and gripped it came to 2.9 (or so i thought). It felt and picked up like a light bat. However, i reweighed it and it came up as 2.13 which was a massive difference - but it just showed me not to be put off by the dead weight.

Yeh, it must be as simple as that. I can't see what else would cause it. I'll stick another grip on and see how we go.

I once saw Mike say that a bat will feel lighter if it has 2 grips on it as it is a mental thing.

A few of thoughts-
1) either your or Mike's scales are not accurate
2) you bat has lost moisture (if you have kept it in a airinf cupboard or near a radiator, though highly unlikely you would have made either of these mistakes)
3) there is problem with the balance of the bat and because of that it was rejected by the pro (if it was a pro bat)
4) wrong bat got sent to you (unlikely)
A 2.9 in GT or Uzi profile has to pick-up lighter than a 2.9 in Krakatoa, Thurxton or B52 profile
BUt if you wanted a bat in 2.9 and a pick-up associated with a 2.9 then you should be fine with it.

The balance is not an issue to me, not enough to cause a problem. I will stick another grip on it (probably going to do that anyway as it is a think handle.
It is the right bat, photographic evidence :)
The bat is stored in an unheated room and I've only had it for a couple of weeks.

J, I was just trying to capture the possible reasons for the weight being lower than told.
Like I said, if the weight is as required by you and your are happy with the pick-up and balance, then you should forget this and get down to busienss with the bat.....

To be honest I'm glad it has turned out a bit lighter than I'd expected. More in my range.

that is how a counterbalance helps. . . . .
an additional grip is prob an ounce in weight. . .will balance it out a bit
