Right well a lad at the club who has brought a new bat recently said he has kept it in the loft since buying it !
So im wondering if its a a good idea or not ??? i know heat is not usually good but my loft has been freezing recently
So should he store it somewhere else ??

I've always gone for unheated room or garage that is not subject to damp or frost. Seems to work.

i keep mine by the window in my room so the temp is not too bad
but im not sure about where he is putting his !

I too have had problems with dry bats cracking due to storage. I tend to keep my bats usually in the coldest spot in the house. Just recently I put one of my bats next to the front door and noticed a slight increase in weight, but still seem pretty dry, so I think its time to oil it. I am thinking of using the Salix bat wax? has anyone tried it? and would it resolve the issue of storage? Also when I sand it down, do I use linseed oil first, later or not at all when applying the bat wax.
Another alternative I saw is the Kookaburra clima cool bat cover. Its a insulated bat cover that would keep the bat at a decent temperature all year round. I stumbled across this on Youtube, check it out....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcg6bNxWEMA&feature=related

well everyone.. this subject raises a question from me... i'm looking to purchase an older version of a bat i've loved in the past. It's been in a bag and box under a spare bed for between 6-8 years in my opinion but has never been used, oiled or knocked in.. will it have dried out? will the fact it's seen no light for years affect it? or does willow stored correctly i.e. constant temp retain it's properties... thanks in advance...
