Title: genuine Marcus Trescothic Bat Refurbed and for all to see!!
Post by: keysersolze on January 11, 2011, 02:10:49 PM
In work last week and our diector of Cricket Julian Wyatt came in after our christmas vacation to find his beloved Marcus Trescothic bat split in 3 places very badly. Being a bat geek i offered to have a go at fixing it, it had been well and truly split half its length. I applied lots of PVA wood glue as James Laver told me to then clamped it together for 24 hours. I then reshaped the toe best i could considering several pieces were missing or hanging of and resin bonded it together. I then sanded it down after putting a toed guard applied anti scuff sheet and green kook grip. It is a GM Maxi LE used in avrious test matches i am told as Julian is a good friend of Marcus Trescothic and are obviously both ex Somerset players and openers. The Bat weighs 2.7Lb with scuff sheet, toe guard and grip. I hope you like it and take note it does not have perfect grains and certainly is not blemish free wood!!! So the grain lovers wont like it!!!! And there a couple of photos of it on the site somewhere to show it in its GM Livery.

Fantastic job mate! Do you refurb bats just as a hobby or more serious?

I do it as a hobby but get paid when its a major refurb like that when i have to buy in epoxy resin to rebuild toes and stuff. Its just nice to get hold of bats made for proffesional players and see how they feel and see the grains etc. The GM guys had written his name on the handle and written "Banger" on the top of the handle, i wonder if that was his nick name with GM. To be fair its a nice bat but no better than some GM 909 and originals i have seen club players using.
