Title: Cbf tour match ground
Post by: roco on January 12, 2011, 08:42:00 AM
Ok before everyone starts saying I'll play I'll play if this is going to work the first thing you need is a ground willing to host I would suggest a Saturday so we can all stay over as for some it will be 4 hours + driving so are there any grounds willing to host please ask around and when we get a ground we can go from there

suggest someone creates a personalised google map and send the link around so each forum member interested sticks their pin on the match (I think you can do that). Hey presto, you'll have a an idea of the most convinient areas for travelling.

as I said on other page im 1stXI captain so could sort this all out for you but the game would have to either be on a Sunday or Bank Holiday Monday.
Details from other page.

If you fancied a ****up over a bank holiday and fancied a game up near sunny Liverpool (good night out) I can supply the ground and a team to play against. Maybe May Bank holiday or August Bank holiday. Plus there would be around 3/4 other forum members playing for us. I know its along way but just let me know id be happy to sort out the ground/team  :)

A Saturday before or after season or a bank holiday and judging from the last time this was mentioned a more southern ground would be appropriate  and if enough intrest we cups just have a cbf vs cbf team

Fair enough  :) just thought if people fancied a stay over they wouldnt mind traveling for a good night ... sounds like a good idea tho hopefully you can get it going.

Yeah Not far at the end of the day are people willing to travel to do this as I don't mind organising it but someone needs to offer a ground as ours is busy all season long plus is out the way

Could possibly hold at Aylesbury Town CC where I am groundsman however have a slight issue so not possible preseason so would be looking at Bank Holidays or end of season which may not be best for sponsors?

Could it be done on may bank holiday weekend on that Sunday maybe

sounds good to me, its only half an hour away ;)

i think we've established it cant be a saturday because of league commitments.

A sunday game would be a possiblity if the monday was a bank holiday, so people travelling along way could stay etc.

I think beggining of the season would be too risky weather wise?

Sunday Teams fixtures have not yet been confirmed so not sure on Sundays availability at the moment but should know shortly.

We need to get find a couple of grounds. See which one suits the people interested geographically the best. Then do a vote on the date, looks like either may bank holiday or august

It's good in theory but if you don't get a ground offered in that area it falls apart let's see what grounds get offered first then can go from there as without a ground it's not happening only had one offer so far which is yet to be fully confirmed

Organising it is not that hard mate I have organised dozens of tours just need to get a ground confirmed then we can move forward any ground will not be close as people will be coming from all over the country so if any one can offer a ground for the match on may or aug bank holiday preferably may so early in season I'm sure it will be worth the clubs while

its pretty much just to help decide a ground tbh

But need a ground to decide on first as no one has said for definate we will host so does not matter where is best until we get an offer

If everyone ineterested in playing in a forum game could just post their location on this website, ill plot everywhere on a google map so we can work out where we should look for a ground.

Near the top right of the page it says "EDIT". Click this and write down your location.

The best thing would be to get a school pitch because it would be free from like the 10th of July and we could play any day of the week on it.....

EDIT: you need to select the "Player Location" page from the selection down the left hand side.

Good idea captain, although the pitch might not be in usable condition if the school are not using it from july.

Yep that is true, hadnt really thought about that...
Title: Re: Cbf tour match ground
Post by: alexrickyponting on January 12, 2011, 08:20:09 PM
It might just depend on the school really. e.g if a private school might be more likely to have the pitch in match condition as they are more likely to have a specialist groundsman and also boarders may use it.

Title: Re: Cbf tour match ground
Post by: jonpinson on January 12, 2011, 08:26:33 PM
Best of luck if you go ahead with it, but from experience of arranging fixtures and the reliability of cricketers, I'd have a pool of 30 possibles before you even consider arranging anything. That way you might get lucky and end up with 11 players on the day.
Title: Re: Cbf tour match ground
Post by: captainofcricket2011kse on January 12, 2011, 08:35:57 PM
Culfords a nice pitch.... In fact its class
But my thinking was wellingborough because they have a gew northants second team games there over the summer and i knoe their first team coach

the problem with a school pitch is there will be alot of restrictions on what you can and can't do so i doubt it would be appropiate and needs to be on a weekend as people have work

Title: Re: Cbf tour match ground
Post by: roco on January 12, 2011, 09:49:41 PM
Just a question when you find out where the best place is what are you going to do clod call all the grounds to see who is willing to let you have their ground?
Title: Re: Cbf tour match ground
Post by: Howzat on January 12, 2011, 09:51:10 PM
Doubt many will let out the ground for free... but a £15 match fee would probably be enough to cover ground hire cost, ball and tea (Unless Fattus Cattus hoovers up all the battenburg)
Title: Re: Cbf tour match ground
Post by: roco on January 12, 2011, 09:55:54 PM
All that could be sorted out as would not expect a ground to do it for free but let's find a ground that's willing then go from there as this could be good if we don't go off on loads of tangents
Title: Re: Cbf tour match ground
Post by: alexrickyponting on January 12, 2011, 09:57:42 PM
well it gives an idea of where to start looking for grounds. theres no point in finding a ground then realising no-one can get there is it?
from the people who have put their locations on the wiki so far, me and jimba101 are pretty much smack bang in the middle - so if the people on the map already were the only ones playing it would make sense to start enquiring about grounds in our area to start with would it not? as then everyone has a roughly even distance to travel.
so effectively, yes.

I agree its unlikely any grounds would let it out for free leo, but as you say a match fee should cover it. I think my club hires out the ground for £50, but theoretically £15 or so each should create £330 which should cover costs
Title: Re: Cbf tour match ground
Post by: ProWannabe88 on January 12, 2011, 09:58:55 PM
Well I'd ask our groundsman but it's generally a softer wicket than others and we will probably have a blind game on seen as it's bank holiday. Sorry.
Title: Re: Cbf tour match ground
Post by: roco on January 12, 2011, 10:04:04 PM
Well getting there is half the problem from the last time we talked about this most people willing to go were from the south so near to there would be good to guarantee participation but how will you look for grounds by looking for people you know in that area or call clubs up ?
Title: Re: Cbf tour match ground
Post by: alexrickyponting on January 12, 2011, 10:07:54 PM
exactly, getting there is half the problem. if we know where everyone is then it becomes a lot easier to guarantee participation.
we could ask the people from the forum in the chosen area to ask their club/ other local clubs about it?
or search and enquire using play-cricket and cal clubs up?
Title: Re: Cbf tour match ground
Post by: procricket on January 12, 2011, 10:13:08 PM
to me will this happen would love it but doubt it

all you need is one voice and i guess that roco because he willing to give his time

for it to work you need clear direction and a plan let ROCO come up with it then go with the flow

if it before September call me in
Title: Re: Cbf tour match ground
Post by: roco on January 12, 2011, 10:16:20 PM
Yes but if people just ask there clubs if they are willing to host now we could get a list of grounds willing then pick one as not many clubs going to be open to cold callers asking to borrow their grounds as they will be worried about what the teams will be like so may impose restrictions I would offer our ground but is mid wales and we have a full fixture list so not possible if it was organised properly it would be a full day out so I would not mind driving a few hours to get there

But with that Leo everyone is at work on Monday so no one could stay over so a long drive would be out of the question but at least it an offer

I think either may 1st or aug 28th should be the dates we should look at as they are both bank holiday Sundays

Thoughts?

Title: Re: Cbf tour match ground
Post by: roco on January 12, 2011, 10:39:41 PM
That could be arranged tim

Ok then who here is willing to send a text to there club asking if the ground could be used on may or aug bank holiday for a friendly game let's not let this drag on for weeks will it won't it if all interested send a text to their club asking the above it would be much appreciated and the club would recieve a fee for this of course all they can do is say yes or no then if we can get more than 1 ground available then we will pick the one best suited to our needs how does that sound as it's only a text and could lead to a fantastic annual event for all ages and abilitys

Boxmoor Cricket Club - No to May 1st and August 28th
Just a thought - wont most clubs have a sunday fixture on?

Also have upgraded this a bit: http://custombatsforumtour.wikispaces.com/
Basically i thought it would be a good idea to keep some of the tour organising seperate from the forum where it cannot be swallowed up and lost in a thread.

most probably yes, hence its easier to decide on an area when we know where everyone is so we can make it fair.

hm didnt really think that through tbh roco, i suppose sunday is the best day with the monday off.

optimistic tim ;)

If the bears get to t20 finals day could be free

Got a suggestion of a ground. Campbell park in milton keynes? My old club used to hire it when we couldn't use our ground at the start/end of the season when the rugby sides were playing. Lovely ground, northants have played t20's there before.

I couldn't find contact details on the net earlier. But it should be available as no club plays there its only used as a hire ground.

I'm 90% sure MK city don't play at Campbell because I've played them many times and they play at Woughton on sundays.

I'd like to +1 for Campbell Park - I've played there before and it is lovely.

Would need to be swift with a booking though as they host a lot of youth county games on sundays.

It won't be cheap either but if twenty two of us are paying then it shouldn't break the bank.

I can possibly get my club ground (Prestbury Cricket Club)  for a Sunday (depending on the 3rd XI games) or a bank holiday and if I am playing then the hire charges will be minimal.

Well stocked bar and a bartender can be arranged.

Hate to be age(ist) here but iif this going to happen i want to go to a ale house and get right royal pissed and a nightclub thrown in with possible a nude strip to the hotel all this talk of games at school's just sounds like this whole thing will be a kinder garden mix...

If it happens i want it to be a grown up affair with beer on tap and make it not just about cricket but a geat way of seeing the face behind the keyboard

off top ic BURNLEY HAVE A NEW MANAGER 8)

i totally agree it should be a more festive day out that is why its better to play at a ground where one of us play as there is more room to have fun but still to hear from people to see if there club would be able to accomadate this

This seems like a bust to me as grounds are either unwilling to host or just don't respond and very few have come forward with grounds

I am thinking of maybe it could be changed to a forum awards night as an end of season thing with maybe a meal and night out at end

Thoughts ?

I think that would be a good shout personally roco. Just a shame we have to wait until September!

Bit it means we have time to organise but depends if people would be willing to travel and attend as would be a full night plus afters and maybe some silly awards

Where you thinking of holding it? Probably midlands given that's a mid point, but maybe we could ask people who would be genuinely interested to state where they are based etc.

Maybe start a new thread as this one seems to have gone stale, detailing a bit of a plan

Well easiest way is see if people are interested then if people are pick 4 destinations then have a vote most votes wins but need interest first

I agree mate, I would be more than up for it and would happily help organise where I can.

Birmingham would be a good night out I reckon, but then again, some of the smaller places would be as well!
