Title: Redback Allegiance, Joker & CA 10000+
Post by: GoldenArm on January 12, 2011, 04:41:55 PM
Hi everyone, long time lurker, first time poster. I've been wanting to post up pictures of my Redback Allegiance from last season for ages but just haven't got around to it but today my new Joker arrived so I thought I would put up some pictures of all my bats together. The Redback is 2.9, all heartwood, 17 grains and goes like a train. Its had a refurb recently and the heartwood is paler than it was previously, more a rosey colour now than the deep redwood it was before. It has to be said again that Gary is making some serious weaponry down there in Devon. Everyone who's ever played a shot with it is purring with contentment afterwards. The CA (2.10, 13 grains) is my net bat which I bought from a friend who got it from Sports HQ. And of course the Joker comes direct from Charlie, it is 2.9, 10 grains and the pick up is quite surprising, i couldn't believe just how light it is for its size, astonishing. I've given it a little knock with a ball and first impressions are v. good, i foresee many balls disappearing over the boundary with this!  Apologies for the crappy iphone photos and my appalling photography skills, I don't have a decent camera at the moment, that's my excuse anyway:)

Welcome to the forum fella. Lovely looking joker, I'm interested in one of these may have to see your future posts on it and look into a purchase. I must say though I'm equally as impressed with that redback. I bet that would do some serious damage with it all heartwood. Was it not very hard to start with though??

Loving the Redback. Also second the comment about Gary and weapons. I now own a redback, and it too is a weapon. Was doing some serious damage last night in nets, and I'm not an overly attacking batsman haha :D

The Redback really is something else, probably the best bat I've ever laid mitts on. it was a little hard to begin with but once it was properly knocked in it just went from strength to strength. I hit a six with it over cover in a six a side tournament that literally drew gasps and a 'bloody hell' from the bloke commentating on the PA. I hasten to add it had absolutely nothing to do with me, it was a quick bowler who gave me a lovely half volley and it just flew off the bat like a missile, it crashed into the tops of some trees and was audibly snapping branches as it blasted its way through. Sounds extravagant, but is entirely true! and all a direct result of the quality of Gary's willow/bat making. Seriously anyone who's just thinking about buying one stop procrastinating and just do it, you'll not regret it. As soon as i've knocked the Joker in and had a proper net with it I'll post a full review, expecting big things!

I think my Paradox could do much the same destruction, the middle really does seem long and powerful! Hit a lovely straight '6' in nets last night over a spinner's head with it and screamed one in the direction of the covers off our big Trinidadian fast medium bowler! :)

Redback look great, I got mine (allegiance premier) in september and I am still in the process of playing it in. I hope it lives up to its reputation because my second bat is an absolute gun!!!!!

I have used a mates G3 Joker, and it is unreal! The pick up is surprising good and the 'ping' (sorry!) is awesome!

The only reason I have used mine 2 weeks after getting it is I got it off here, and it had just been refurbed, though wasn't used much last season! It is a beaut though, really gonna give the SAF a run for its money! :) Though great to be faced with the choice!

Yeah it is Mark. It's going very well indeed. As I said, I don't usually use 2.12s, but I couldn't notice on Tuesday in nets, nothing wrong with my batspeed then! Though there are some odd things happening with the toe.. :( But I will look into that. I think I need to whack some shoe goo on there quick.
Back to the point, that Redback of yours looks lovely GoldenArm, I didn't even pick up the fact it was all heartwood until just now!! Must be a real weapon, as you say :D

Here's a couple of pictures of the original 6 clefts that Gary sent me to choose from, it was tough I can tell you! You can see the heartwood a lot better in this one.

mines the one on the left, obviously

and here's the other three just for the sake of it.

I have a Redback Allegience but mine is a bit heavier than you have (2lb15oz), it is by far and away the best bat I have ever used, it picks up beautifully and I don't really notice the extra weight.  When the ball is hit it stays certainly stays hit, I have only let one person use it (we were in a cup final and needed runs!) he didn't want to give the bat back!

When the time comes to replace the current bat I will be straight back to Gary.

The fact you don't notice the extra weight is certainly very interesting Bez, it's much the same with me and my 2.12 Paradox. What do you feel the bat picks up like? All I can say is that All Redbacks look and appear to perform beautifully. I hold the brand really high in my books at this current moment in time :)

I have historically used 2lb10oz to 2lb12oz depending on pick up, I went to see Gary and I had asked him to prepare me a 2lb13oz to 2lb15oz lowish middle bat which he duly did and found one I liked, he then suggested I try something slightly different he had been working on (may have been an early Paradox shape) and as soon as I picked it up I knew it was 'the one'!!

I don't really buy into the whole 'picks up like' thing, all I know is it feels damn good and the balance of the bat means I don't notice it.  The middle is massive and seems to run the length of the bat.

The bats kind of sell themselves I had one guy ask me where I got it from whilst he was stood at first slip, he was impressed with the way the ball was coming off the bat but he was more impressed with the sound of the ball coming off the bat!  I gave him the contact details for Gary after the game but I've no idea if he followed it up, guess I'll find out when we play them this summer.

Very interesting that, it's the same with me, just scaled down a bit, really. I used to use a 2.8, about 3 months ago, and now use a 2.12 with the Redback. Nice about you getting to try the shape though, sounds interesting!
Yeah, I can't really say with mine either, though some can. Again, I agree with you, the balance of the bat is superb, and the middle is very long and really does go bloody well when I middle it. Wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happened to me next year while using it, but it would be interesting to see if that guy now has one! They are really good bats in my opinion. Top quality, and this is the 2nd grade bat (Premier, though that is still quality, just not totr..)!!
Would luurve to know what the L.E. is like, is that the one you have, or premier..?

I'm the same as you, mine is Premier, I'd really love to know what an L.E. goes like!  If I get the spare dosh I would be seriously tempted to get an L.E., I better get saving.

I'll know if that bloke has bought one as there are only two people in my area who use them and the other one was bought at the same time as mine.

Ahh makes sense, I got mine secondhand for a very reasonable price, so am really pleased. It had been refurbed, so some toe damage is coming back to visibility levels, but I will whack some shoe goo on when I get some :)

I'll never understand why anyone would want to part with their Redback, if you got it cheaply all the better!!

Good luck with the repair, if mine broke I would be upset.....until I bought another.

He sold it to me as he was in need of money I believe. He sold 2 redbacks, still has one though!!
I think it just needs a coat of Shoe Goo, and then it will be fine...

Not really in need of the money massively - just didn't want it to be sat unused in my bag for another season.  It's criminal for a bat that good to be going to waste.

Ahh, makes more sense then mate. Criminal it was. Now it will be seeing a lot of use. Netting with it through winter nets, and will use for 50% of club games and school matches I think. I think it'll be about 25 games worth of use, as I will be playing about 45 club gaames this year :)
