What do you all think about the TT bat?
-
Like the look of it, however haven't seen one in the flesh yet. If I had the money this is one bat I would seriously look to purchase this season.
-
Mikes one I saw and felt was a beaut but that was not a standard tt
-
Yeah mikes was lovely as was the one up for sale on here last year, i believe pete has a nice one too. Still regret not buying the one on here!
However apparently lots have very small profiles now in shops, so not worth having the cut shoulders!
-
Do you guys feel there is much difference in performance between players & Sps?
-
I have one that I specially ordered with NB and it is amazing. the middle is phenomenal and the pick-up is a dream
-
I think there probably is. But all the Players bats I have used seem to be of a good standard!
-

Sometimes no. I have seen a few Players bats at Lukey's that have a better ping and pick-up than a SPS in the same range. Just the looks aren't all that good. The good looking Players are generally not as good as SPS in performance.
-
At club level you may not be able to feel the difference as the standard of the bowling, the quality of the balls used, wicket and the outfield are generally not very good. All these affect the speed with which the ball comes on to the bat and goes off the bat.
The faster it comes the faster it goes.
My opinion is that a pro will time the ball better than us even with a Players bat than most of us can with a SPS or even better due to the above mentioned factors.
-
I have alway found that there is a good difference between SPS and players as those are graded by Tim and Nick Keeley.

Asad

Interesting, very conflicting opinions. I guess there is some difference, Have you heard reports of difference in the performance as well as the looks though Asad? Though I think us Club Cricketers are OK with Players haha, but we're never going to buy the second range :D I guess it's a desire to want the best that is on offer, despite what Yash said being a very valid point!

Are all Newbery bats graded just on performance Asad bhai? Would Tim or Nick grade a bat with some imperfections in the willow but SPS level performance as a SPS?
-
A pro playing on hard wickets and facing 80mph ball will time the ball better with a Players grade bat than a club cricketer playing with a SPS on similar or slower wickets and facing 60-70mph ball.
Still to factor the players ability, skill and technique, where I think there will be no debate whether a club cricketer is more talented or a Pro....
-
I have been told by tim that clefts are graded initially for SPS and players and once the bat is made, Tim checks and then grade it as sps or player. how can you check performance by just hitting the bat with mallet for few mins.
My experience is that willow quality is better for SPS bat.
-
Thanks guys. I guess it also depends on budget

Asad bhai, I agree with both ur points on grading a bat witha few hits with them mallet (but I would assume that Tim and Nick are very experienced at it) and that the quality of the SPS is better.
But my point is that, would a bat with willow imperfections but with SPS level performance be grade as a SPS. I think not as no retailer will want a ugly looking SPS and ask customers to pay £250 or more for it.....so some good performing bats do get down graded due to other factors and this is true for all brands and not just Newbery.

Yes, everything depends on the budget mate....go for a smaller brand if you want the tp grade bat but with do not want to shell out £200 or more
-
Who would you suggest?
-
Maybe a Lekka I know it's not a tt, but I reckon its pressed in a similar fashion
-
Romida had a stack of TT bats when I popped in after xmas. As a bat, it didn't seem to me to have the wow factor for £250-300. Thick edges but not as thick as some bats, didn't seem to have a big middle and while the face looked nice - so do alot of other bats. I think the 2 I picked up had 8-10 straightish grains but the face was nice not stunning. Had a quick play but the evil wife ruined my fun and dragged me out.All in all didn't seem worth the money but then again I didn't have a chance to have a knock up with it!
-
TT or joker ? what u think fellas
-
if big edges impress then the Joker.
-
Who would you suggest?
Firstly I would like to know why are you looking to buy a bat with a shorter blade? What weight? Do you want performance or edges
-
Not necessarily after short blade. I'm looking for a bat with a good pick up that will suit my game. I'm a dynamic opener with quick bat speed.
-
What does 'dynamic opener' mean?
-
Think of Chris Gayle, Gilchrist etc. Basically, I score quickly. Shared a 150 opening stand last year & I scored 114 of them in 16 overs.

That is quite dynamic

Handy... Jesus!

It's not at a very high level though! :-(

You didn't need to tell us that!
I've had a Joker & it was very eye catching with its big edges. Didn't feel different to a normal bat really, and went very well.
Wish I hadn't sold it now, but I needed the money :(
-
You sound similar to someone I know. We were on 150-0 after 9 overs, our opener had smashed 110 of them. Ridiculous hitting. You sound much the same, even if it isn't at that high a level, that is still impressive!
-
Wow, that must have pissed the bowlers off lol!
-
Yeah it did haha. I think he had something like 13 6's! :)
