Wondering what Superstitions / Traditions people have on here...
For me personally I have the standard : Putting my left pad on first.
I also however scored my first ever 50 when in the morning I changed my batting grip to 2 grips and from that I have always used 2 grips.
Reds
-
always say "back in a minute" before going out to bat - 50% of the time I'm right :-)
-
always have wheetabix on the morning of playing sport.
always sit in the far left hand corner of the dressing room as you walk in the door
get all of the gear im going to use out and set it up on the bench and then put on in this order ;
whites
socks
spikes
thigh pad
inner thigh pad
box
left pad doing straps from bottom to top
right pad doing straps from bottom to top
then take helmit, gloves and bat outside to put on/pick just before going out to bat.
left glove
right glove
helmit
pick up bat and walk out
wouldnt say thats a superstition, merely routine.
once out in the middle take 2 and scratch 3 times. before draggin my bat over the mark. i do that everytime i get on strike which i would say is my only superstition
-
Nice routine you've got there Stubbzy. I guess it works well for you mate :)
-
i read somewhere it was good to have a routine and then i thought about it and i kind of did, i put my kit on in that order without really thinking about it and from then on have just remembered
-
The idea of having a routine is to allow you to clear your mind before you bat, as you don't have to think where your kit is, it goes on in a way as naturally as walking out to bat. It's a real sir geoff thing. Having said that, it's one I agree with!

Always left glove, left pad first.
At the crease I always tap my bat down 3 times, two of which are when the bowler's just getting into in his delivery stride. I always count how many balls left in the over too, and nearly always get it wrong, just so I know how many to survive.
-
I often like to sit with my lid on before i bat, sometimes gloves too. Im quite fussy about my guard, need to be able to see it or just as force of habit ill scratch, not as bad as Trott but like to see it, always a long shirt when im keeping, always! Fussy with inners, finger tape and gloves clearly, as are most keepers. I like the ball in my hands every ball but our club don't seem to trust themselves, feel of the ball in the gloves is something special only us keepers will appreciate i guess

gloves on when i get out to the crease.... and ask the umpire how many balls are left when there are 2 left despite me counting in my head :/

Wow, some of you lot are as OCD as they come ;) nah, just kidding! I have a tradition when I bowl. I lick my fingertips à la Will Beer. Just something weird. When fielding, make a cross where I should be finishing after walking in. Also have the same walk everytime I walk in, same steps, just habit I think. When batting, after every shot I do a Kallis and walk towards square leg, look around, twizzle bat, and walk Back. one of my mates used to pull the collar of his shirt (used to have it up not down), check his box, then 'fix his wedgie' sort of thing when batting, every time and he didn't even know, I picked up on it one day, and we all had a good laugh about it!
-
I have to tap the crease twice before every delivery and when I have kept have to walk in two paces aa bowler runs in really put first slip off as was near him before I stepped forward so he would think he was too close ha
-
oh yeah, every balll i check my box is in the right place... bit weird really.... supporters love it as well haha
-
General: I always take the 3rd seat on the right of the changing room. Have something in red color in my kit.
Batting: Never look back when I am walking out to bat....
Bowling: always tighten my shoe laces and hit the stumps with the back of my shoe when marking my run-up for the first time (twice if i change ends)....very annoying for the umpire, but get away with a polite smile and sorry.
-
when batting i always do the kp shirt thing and take my time after every ball
when bowling i always turn to my left when i start my run up
-
Not really a superstition but I was thinking the other day that I've used a blank bat only once in a game and scored a hundred. I may have to de-sticker my Distinction for the 2011 season... :D
-
I wear a long sleeved baselayer when I bat, but strangely not when I field.
-
Got to have a yellow grip on my bat!!! Started when I was younger and put a yellow grip on and scored a 50 first up, so have had one ever since...
-
From Swanny...
The key wicket of the day belonged to Mike Hussey, who had scored at least 50 in each of his five innings to that point, but nicked an Anderson outswinger to depart for eight.
Swann, whose friendship with Hussey dates back to their Northamptonshire days, believes he knows why.
“I said to Hussey that day, and I’ve said to him since, he messed with the cricketing gods,” Swann said.
“He changed his stickers. He had blue stickers before, when he scored all those runs, but his sponsor had obviously got a new range out and they made him bat in orange pads and orange stickers. Never do that! I’m a very superstitious character.”
More superstitious than Jonathan Trott? “Oh yes. He’s got OCD [obsessive-compulsive disorder]. That’s different. You can’t scratch your mark after the game’s finished — that’s not superstition, that’s just craziness.
"Trotty’s round the bend. His kit’s lined up perfectly and his gloves are lined up perfectly. I’ve just got an order I like to do things. I’m ready to bowl after two balls to mid-on. I’ve always believed that if something works, don’t change it. I don’t agree in upsetting whoever’s up there looking down over us.”
-
So its Kookaburra's fault they lost the Ashes! :D
-
Hussey didn't make much of an impact when he started with Rogue gear in Melbourne, so it's definitely the case :p
-
or england stopped bowling long hop pies at him and pitched the ball up.

I think that may have something to do with it mate!
-
I dont really have a superstition, I always put my left hand side gear on first, Be it shoe's pads, gloves,
when i get to a changing room, I take all my kit out of the bag and arrange it in order for what i will put on for when i will bat, Once i get to the middle, I tend to count all the runs i score, So i know what i am on for the duration of my innings.
-
hmm i allways spin my bat inbetween balls lol
thats about it for me dont really do anthing. play a few massive dirty warm up shots.
match day usually consits of getting to field about 11 having a net with bowling machine till about 12. going to chippy for some snap at about 12.30
then start at 1.30 lol

im like Jon Trott, with OCD, ive too many quirks to list!
