Title: Blueroom Review - Custom New Wave
Post by: Ryan on January 25, 2011, 07:06:46 PM
Right guys here we go. Last Saturday I had a ride down to see Rob at the “pack cave” with PW and Simmy. Took about 2 hours to get there but well worth the drive. We got there about half 10ish, had a look round the shop and workshop while Rob finished with a customer.

While down there we had a good look at the softs which Simmys posted pictures off on another topic (very nice and good quality too). Anyway Rob came over and discussed what I was looking for and disappeared for 5 minutes. He then reappeared with a very nice looking bat in his hand. Very good pickup and weight, just what I was after. The only thing was that I wasn’t too keen on the look of the bat (not that it matters). I then followed Rob into the back room (a massive rack with loads of unfinished blades all handled up). Picked out a few nice blades before eventually choosing “the one”.

We then went back into the workshop where Rob trimmed it down to the basic shape and made the round handle oval. I still couldn’t decide if it was right. Something was putting me off, it was the balance which Rob looked at and altered in 10 minutes. Now happy with the balance he then disappeared to string the handle and re-grip. Once it was all gripped and I was happy with everything he then finished sanding and gave it a quick polish before giving the edges a bone and applying the stickers.

Overall very happy with my new piece of willow, just looking forward to using it.

Specs of the bat are:

Style – New Wave
Grade – 1
Weight – 2.8 and a half
Grains – 13 straight with a little heart wood on the outside
Not sure on the width of the edges

Thanks again Rob, would recommend a visit to the “pack cave” to everyone!!

My word, that's a handsome feller you've landed yourself. Beautiful grains and a nice profile as well!

Must have been very satisfying to see the bat being transformed into its final form right in front of you. Now I'm jealous  :(

Aww don't be! You too could have a bit of timber like this one...just type "bat cave" into your sat nav and  you'll be there in no time ;)

Well it cost me £200 (mates rates due to PW coming down with me) and about £40 in diesel lol but deffo worth every penny! Had a fantastic experience too, got to choose the wood, type of handel, weight, style, balance, stickers and grip, he even gave me a scuff sheet to apply after its had a little coat in oil. Miles better value for money than my warsop :d

I'd recommend the bats and service to anyone! PW and simmys bats are lovely too, just very disappointing when you have to bowl at them in the nets...you just know nearly every balls getting crunched for a boundary.

Please Please PLEASE stop tempting me with one of these...if only I had loads of money. Got something special lined up if I get 10 A*s so might have to make way for one of these too: Life is so tough!! Too much choice... :)

So the bat is basically £160 ? Not bad price at all!

No I think he means the bat was 200 and it cost him 40 extra travelling there and back.
Title: Re: Blueroom Review - Custom New Wave
Post by: johan95 on January 26, 2011, 10:43:40 PM
But the custom experience was 200, due to the 'mates rates' idea, as PWB does run the section on here, therefore I think Ryan got a one-off deal, which Liam Implied earlier, I believe :)

Defeats the object of having it stickerless ;)

yeah thats right Johan, i think the customs are normally £240 so saved £40

i didn't like the stickers at first Roco, i was going to go for the pink ones which I've seen on PW and simmys (and liked) but thought id try to look different with the blue ones :) the pictures don't do the stickers justice!
Title: Re: Blueroom Review - Custom New Wave

Pixie, there are plans/designs in place for another set of stickers. These are completely different to the others, a more subtle classic design for the customs which are Rob Pack Cricket rather than BlueRoom. I can keep you updated with the progress if your wanting a bat but aren't keen on the current labels.

Personally, I think that combo of the White Grip and Blue/Yellow Stickers is the best one. So so tempted by one of these, they look absolutely class :) Don't know what to do. Can't really get another bat for a while though :|

I don't mind the stickers too much - mine has pink stickers which looks a little better in the flesh I reckon.
The Blueroom is a third of the way down so you need to scroll down...

If you were more patient and less impulsive you could have owned a gargantuan bit of wood like that simon my friend. You saw some of the monsters that were in last week.

just thought i'd give an update on the bat. used it for the 1st time in a game yesterday (too ages to knock in, seemed to be pressed really hard) and im very happy with my BR. i'm sure simmy will back my up that its a GUN, nearly killed the umpire. good job the bowler got a hand to it.  :D

went in at 6 and nearly beat our opener to 50  :o overall very happy!
