Title: Best protection for thigh, abdominal, inner thigh etc. area
Post by: Fetchthatone on January 31, 2011, 01:08:23 PM
Hi there,

What would you guys say was the best form of protection for like inner thigh, thigh, and box areas? I've always used Kookaburra padmans but I think it may be time to move on to something a bit more advanced.

Cheers.

Jake

Remfry, with the exchange rate, are in excess of £150 these days!

Yeah, not sure I wanna spend that much!

Also, you know with the Aero strippers, how do you get the box to integrate with that as as far as I can see there is no section for it in the strippers?

there is a gap in the strippers for it to...protrude through, shall we say.

Plenty of space mate, you just wear it seperately

I went through this a week or so ago

Remfy were £140 posted then a bank transfer fee of £20 so £160 in all
Ace £95 posted
But in the end after much much searching went for hawk they are £40 posted and are top notch protection and brilliant fit
With the aero I found the inner thigh was awkward

All above were for inner and outer thigh

Yeah but do you mean just slipping it into underwear, as that's never going to be comfortable!

No mate, have a look at these. May set you back £30 but this is where you want to be spending money on protection.

Alternatively, you could always go down the boxers pouch and seperate box option

Then wear 2 layers haha...
Aero's have been good for me. I wear them over my trousers in nets as otherwise it takes too long to get them on underneath. In terms of match days, if we're batting, and I am 6 for example, I would still have them on to save time :)
Hope that helps, Aero's are a bit cheaper, not seen the Hawks, but if Roco says they are good, then I would believe that...

The only thing i dont like about the aero's is the hip protector always flaps over the top of my trousers, i believe the newer models were changed to avoid this

protection wise they are very solid, they stood up to the 90mph treatment buzz was giving me in the nets ( ok it was only 55mph lol )

Haha mike, I don't get bothered by the hip protector thingy...
I guess about 80mph though mate...89 on the bowling machine is rapid... ;)

Canners - it was about 65mph from 17/18 yards (the barn is short!) so it feels closer to 75. (which can easily be rounded up to mid 80's!!)

the Aero pads are really good. Personally I use the Hawk thigh pads as they offer good protection and come in a rage of sizes so if you are tall you can get a thigh pad to fit and at £40 are really good value.

I am surprised that this question has been asked - but to hold a box in your options are: use a jockstrap; use some boxer/brief's with a pouch; or find a base layer with a pouch (like some of the under armour stuff.)
I can't believe that wearing two pairs of undies would really do the job!

find something that is comfortable and fits nicely and use that. we are all different shapes so different combinations will work for different people.

Shock doc shorts with box

that's what I have gone for. Don't mind forking out for that sort of gear. That and a helmet you can't put a budget on really

It is an age old question about why we did not put a groin protection system onto the Strippers.  The primary reason is that the way that the Strippers move and stretch meant that it was impossible to get an integrated cup to stay in place - a very key attribute for a cup!!!

Instead we have a developed a really excellent cup and underwear combination that is designed specifically to integrate with (but not be connected to) the Strippers.  You can buy the Aero Groin Protector Briefs and Groin Protector Cups from most retailers that stock the Strippers.

If you drop Mike an e-mail he could well be able to sort you out mate. I got P1s for a VERY reasonable price off him and was really pleased :D PM me if you require his e-mail mate :)

I have just bought the P1's to go with my Aero Briefs and Box. Fantastic!

I got mine for £40 from LukeySports in Preston. Also a really good shop if you are around the Lancashire area. He is very knowledgeable and stocks a lot of Asain brands alongside some bespoke English brands such as M&H and Vantage.

They are very comfortable and alongside the Aero briefs and box provide brilliant protection without compromising flexibility. I was a little unsure about purchasing as I had previously had the same Morrant thing pad and GN inner thigh pad for over 8 years! But I think the price is reasonable for something which looks like it will last a long time.

I decided to get the P1s over the P2s because of the size difference. But I think the P2 would be ideally suited for someone who is a junior maybe and is still to fully grow.

Just tried on my stuff for this season and I've decided to scrap my GN shorts and thinking about getting the Hawk Guards. So I don't know what to wear to keep my box in place, I definately don't want to wear a jock strap or briefs so I've been thinking about getting some shock doctor shorts, are they just like boxers or are they more like those compression type shorts?

Also, can you buy them without the box other then from the shock doctor website? as the shipping costs will be quite large won't it?

Matt - you can get them on amazon
some of the under armour compression shorts have a pouch for a box too.

I had kookaburra padmans, moved to stripper and kept the Kookaburra to wear just as batting shorts. When the time comes to bat i just put the batting shorts on. Box in the pouch and stripper on top of that. Couldn't be comfier n my opinion

I've always just worn ccycling shorts under my thigh guard and put a box in that, never really got on with pouches of any sort.

Give these a go. Great protection for most club level players, comfort, and the box doesnt move. - Also really easy to run in.

I have a set of Remfry which I'm using currently although for the money they ain't worth it in my opinion, may even go back to a new set of P1 Strippers

I don't play high enough level cricket to warrant paying that much for a thigh pad. I like to have good gear but that's pushing it, are they honestly worth what you paid Dave? What level of cricket do you play?
