Title: Pre-season fitness
Post by: Kulli on February 10, 2011, 04:53:49 PM
Club over here don't take winter nets anywhere near as seriously as we did back home and I kinda miss getting a bit of a workout.

Wondering if anyone has any advice or even a suitable 2/3 month plans could steal and adapt. No gym membership at the moment and hoping not to have to bother as those places are soul destroying.

Not looking to really build myself up so much as strengthen my core a bit and reduce the chance of injuries later on.

Cheers

I have mentioned this today actually, I have found using kettlebells are great for conditioning. Give you a good cardio workout and build strength, especially in back, arms, knees and wrists which are vital for cricket, and the injury prone areas.

20mins session 3 times a week and you are well and truley 'conditioned'....and drenched

PM me your email if you like mate and I will send you some stuff. Up to you

My emails in my profile, not too sure how much it'd cost me to buy a set of them over here mind you.

What's pre season fitness ? I tend to adopt the inzaman or beefy botham style and save my energy for the match ha

You'll only need one mate and they are not that expensive! What send something over to you

Yeah, if you could that'd be great.

I'll wander into town and have a look tomorrow, but nothing here isn't expensive, especially when you're not working.

Righto mate, I see your point. I have heard Oz can be pricey, have a mate living in Sydney and he says he gets toiletries etc sent over as its far cheaper!

Will put something together for you shortly

I'm sure Oz is pricey mate, but I'm on Oslo, which is even pricier.

Much appreciated.

Oh, I think I remember you talking about relocating a while back.

Heard Oslo is lovely though......

I keep forgetting this place doesn't list your location under your name.

Yeah it's amazing, except for the difficulty in getting hold of cricket stuff and the price of everything else.

Being able to walk out of your door and be skiing through the forest 5 minutes later is amazing.

Mate, I live in Shrewsbury and was doing that every day during December ;)

Spot of skiing down the Severn was rather festive I thought

Did you stock up before the move?

Netting in Shrewsbury school every week at the min mate

I stoked up on a fair few things but not cricket gear as I never expected to be playing much (if at all), only brought my box, an old bat and my gloves with me  :( sold or gave away the rest.

On the plus side my pads and whites would have been useless over here, and I think I've been able to wrangle a set of blue ones for nothing from an old club pro.

That's the funniest post I have read in ages Kulli. Just imagine you walking out to bat, invisible to everyone around you, wearing a box and a battered GN Scoop from the 80's.....

What was the reason for the move mate? Work related?

Really mate? Our slot is 8-10 on a Sunday night, top facilities in there. Bit of a dodgy bounce in the left hand lane though.....remind me again who you are playing for this year?

Wasn't too far away from that at the first nets when I had to give everyone the sad eyes in the hope someone would loan me their pads.

Like pretty much all the ex-pats over here I was captured by one of the countries army of tall attractive blondes that they send abroad to recruit cricketers for the national team.

We skittled Newtown last game of the season for 69, they then murdered us in a beer match. Good bunch

I didn't say it was sufficient for conditioning Outlaw. I said it would help, and KB's are a great way to burn fat and give a decent cardio workout for someone who does not want to go to a gym. I am sure you will give info on HIIT and Tabata etc, but it was just a casual piece of advice

Mis-read your post mate and edited mine! And yeah KB's are good as part of a workout and pretty cost-effective.

It's no problem mate! I just know that people take that game very very seriously and will pounce on anything people say when it comes to that topic.

I got a couple from Newitts and use them few times a week, well pleased with them. Very good for power and make you work bloody hard. Getting the form right was the hardest thing though

Doing a bit of strength and conditioning for the uni team... Involves a lot of core muscle work in Supersets. I'll try and get hold of my worksheet as I don't know it by heart.
