At the start of every off season I always tell myself I will take a few weeks off then really have a big off season to try and improve for the next year. But it never happens whether I cant be bothered, assignments, rugby etc comes in the way.
I was just wondering does anyone really think you can get significantly better with a big off season or even really hard training? Now im not talking about when your 10-14 and learning the game etc.
I was also wondering if people had found getting on the weights to have a significant difference for them. i am naturally very lean.
I also have pretty average footwork and generally just take a small step towards the direction of the ball. This might be stretching it but does anyone or has anyone tried a flexibility program to improve there stride length so to speak? Its somthing different but putting yourself in the position to play the ball is really half the battle when your batting.
Anyone done anything or have drills etc or methods they think work?

What has made me much better is having a weekly bowling machine session... easy when you have access to one for free - expensive otherwise...
-
Buzz do you actually have a BOLA in this barn of yours, or is it a smaller version? :)
-
It isn't my barn, but it is a bola
-
I don't know what it was called, but Canners mentioned your bowling machine, off 18yards.. so I guess a garage then? If so, nice conversion idea, very constructive :)
-
It is a converted stable. Now used for (in no particular order...)
a) Buzz Batting Academy
b) Large Parties (there is a bar area)
c) Storing solar panels (not always totally compatable for a.)

Cool, that sounds lush! 8) - but on topic a bit :-[, I am planning on doing a lot of work before our season starts. Will be starting outdoors soon, doing throwdowns and perfecting technique, getting on the bowling machine as soon as possible. Also, I will be doing fielding and keeping work, and bowling on my own at target stumps.
I am trying to do an indoor bowling machine net as frequently as possible at the Oval, as my net on Thursday was really helpful. Need to perfect a swivel pull hopefully, to fast bowlers of course :)
Weights can help I guess, but I wouldn't overdo it..depends what level you play I guess. Maybe sprints and distance runs would serve you better perhaps?

i have recently been doing lots of swimming and resistance work (as i cant lift weights with my shoulder) am seeing results physically but yet to see if this helps my cricket, or merely pulling power on the beach ;)

Been trying to improve fitness runs + sprints to help with running between wickets etc + aid concentration also some press up sit ups to improve strength conditioning really

I've always lived down the gym, however I now try and do more core work and compound work as it targets all the muscles and burns serious calories in doing so....
Cricket related I've started to attend nets and am really enjoying them, have had a few sessions working on my batting and it's helped no end.... Roll on the season

I'm a man who discovered the wheel, and built the Eiffel Tower out of metal and brawn! That's what kind of man I am. You're just a woman with a small brain. With a brain a third the size of us. It's science.

Ohh, it's the deep burn. Oh, it's so deep. Oh, I can barely lift my right arm 'cause I did so many. I don't know if you heard me counting. I did over a thousand.

The only way to bag a classy lady is to give her two tickets to the gun show... [kisses his biceps] and see if she likes the goods!

Ive run at least 4.5 miles a day every day since 5th Jan (apart from 3 days) and attend circuit training once a week. I don't know if it helps my cricket yet as our nets dont start properly until mid March. Definately feel healthier and notice progress in the ease of which i run long distances now and also breeze through an hour of 5 a side football once a week. Hardest part is definately motivation - helps if you have someone to train with and i have tried to improve my diet aswell which has definately stopped me feeling sluggish.

That's good going! I used to do quite a lot of long distance running when I was a kid. Just getting back into it. Do about 4 miles before work in the morning and altered my diet a little bit. Looking to drop about half a stone before the season, ideally being 12 stone at 6ft.
