Title: My Bats, Pads & Gloves (Pictures Included)
Post by: tbarnfield99 on February 21, 2011, 08:22:59 PM
Right thought I would write a little review about my dealings with Redback.

Came to that time of the year where I thought I would dust the bag off and see if I needed any new equipment for Winter nets. Then I realised that I had left my bag in the back of my pick-up after the last game of the 2010 season and it had rained. New pads and bat etc ruined. Although an excuse for brand new gear!

Most years I will get a new bat. Usually a mid-range Asian bat, spending not too much over £100. Time and time again they would play great for 3/4's of the season and then they would break. Usually in the handles! (I think all Asian bats are made with chocolate handles!) Then borrowing various bats that just are not suited to my play.

This year I thought I would invest in some top quality English equipment, with good customer service and people who actually care about how their product is performing well after the purchase date.

Narrowed it down to Vantage, SAF and Redback, finally choosing the latter.

A few exchanged e-mails and 'we' had come up with a couple of ideas. Gary said he would make them up and then get back to me. About 4-5 days passed and I got sent a couple of photos of the bats, eventually deciding on the Paradox after initially being set on the Allegiance.

Seen as though everything I previously owned was destroyed, I went for the Traditional gloves and pads. 3 days later and I came home to a few packages...

This is what I got:

Hope this helps anyone who fancies getting one. If you do, then why are you waiting? Grab the phone or get typing and get in touch with Gary, you will not be disappointed.

Redback looks superb (as ever)!

What is the difference between the Allegiance and the Paradox? They look very similar in terms of profile?

*they ;) - and it is one bat Tom!!
Allegiance has a lower middle, and Paradox a mid-middle. Paradox is more for all-round strokeplay I would say, having used mine! Hope that answers it! Sure Tom(barnfield) will give an opinion though! :)

Very happy with my gear. One of the best looking bats I have had. In fact I've gone and bought another second hand Allegiance! This site has set me back a few pennies!

If you don't like sausage fingers, then the split's they do are the best looking I've seen (even though I never wear splits)

'Ruined' (I was rain dancing in my sleep I think!)

I have never ever ever seen a bad looking redback. i have an allegiance and it is a top notch performer. i think Redbacks take a bit of time to play in, but when they go there's no stopping them.

To be fair I actually put 'bats' in the title! Will add a picture of the new addition later on.

Johan's right, it has an ever so slightly lower middle. Both of mine are 2lb 10oz and pick up amazingly. I could have had another 2ozs to be honest! They both pick up very similar as well, despite the allegiance having a lower middle.

The same English 'pro' as the last 2 years. Called Gareth Pedder, he was an amateur but is one of the best all rounders in the league. Scoring over 500 runs and 50 wickets last year. We have had problems employing some overseas professionals. Have had pro's come over looking to play county cricet, and so only play for themselves and not the team.

You're right about that. Mine had just been refurbed when I bought it off Mark (mdl_1979), but after about 6-8 net sessions it is starting to go like a train now - had a couple of cracking straight drives to spin last week, one smashed another guy's leg: he couldn't bowl for like 5 minutes, such was the power of the shot, and I am not overly attacking :(

I apologize for my mistake! I see now they are the same bat, but I was a little confused by the 'Bats' in the title!

Have knocked it in for about 3/4's of an hour so far, and it's feeling good. Will probably do another 3/4's and then have a few throw downs and see how I get on with it. Allegiance came yesterday and I will be going straight into the nets with that on Thursday. Will pop some pictures of it up soon.

After going for oversized Asian bats since I was 15 it will be different with a more traditional profile. Although towards the end of last year I was borrowing a mates Salix and it was fantastic to use.

Prefer the heartwood on the right one and the stickers on the left one ;)

Spent half an hour knocking both baths in last night. Got to say the LE pings considerably better. I'm sure both bats will be good in time. First knock with the Allegiance tomorrow night. Will let you know how it performs.
