Title: My new bat
Post by: procricket on February 23, 2011, 12:58:37 PM
Seen some stunners on here but i have a bat here which taps up great has a rather special profile and did not cost very much at
all

The edges are around 40mm and the weight is 2lb 6oz

It has come unbranded and the profile is very Laver Special similar to my one....

Iam happy with it indeed i have never seen a bigger bat for the weight...

Pictures will be uploaded when i return from work and i even buy a camara do do them with happy.

The Nixon has a very Millichamp looking toe! Looks a bit like a more traditional looking Solution to me.

The blank looks very nice. Did you pick it up from Steve?
Title: Re: My new bat
Post by: tim2000s on February 23, 2011, 03:46:12 PM
I was shocked at the edges on the 2lb6oz bat, then I saw the concaving and was much less surprised. Very L&W shaped. The concaving comes close to that Rob Pack prototype "Bat Wing" that someone had made.

You've only just got it mate what's the weight of the Nixon

You do love your scalloping but it's got heartwood so will be sold soon then ;)
Title: Re: My new bat
Post by: procricket on February 23, 2011, 03:46:38 PM
one was sourced from Rich Watson the Nixon mate feels nice off a mallet.

The unbranded one i going to just say it is a bat there no story to tell it taps up nicely and is bloody light and a carbon copy of my Laver

The blank looks very nice. Did you pick it up from Steve?

Yes i did mate if it the same Steve i was very Very dubious mate but for 100 pound you can not go far wrong and as i said it taps up well and the pick up is simply smashing and like Tim said a carbon copy of my Laver PB

Arron this will be coming on the road trip mate

I was like a kid in a sweet shop in his garage. Over 400 bats. Where do you start?! I picked up a 2 lb 11 with very similar shape to yours. I was dubious too but would recommend the trip to anyone. Very genuine and honest chap

The 2.6 reminds me of the blue room prototype

very nice indeed
Title: Re: My new bat
Post by: procricket on February 23, 2011, 03:55:54 PM
tell you as people know i am a gypsy i will buy a bat off anybody and after seeing so many i had herd mixed reviews but i thought it is my weight and looked half good he emailed me saying if i was not happy i could return it but when it arrived it just looked the same as my Laver which i love and instead of paying 360 pound i paid 100 pound and it taps up very nicely indeed.

As we all know sometimes taking a risk is important i do not know were it is made but i have bought enough bats to know it quality.

I have checked the handle and that seems of a good quality as good as my SS so i'am made up.

It has a long way to go to break into the top 3 but we shall see.

So whats the secret with the price ?

he wanted 50 pound more than i haggled to pay....

I think he just wants a good reputation i can not vouch for any of his bats i have bought this one and it seems after a few taps to be ok infact ok to good....

My bat ethos

If it pick up ok
If it plays ok

That all i follow in that order number 1 seems fine number two seems ok for a new bat.

yes it was off ebay thank you Pete Hosk for the spot.

I not saying all his bats are god but after hearing much about them good and bad i though i would give it a whirl.

Mine seems good and it was cheap before people ask yes the handle is of a good quality and fitted well i know enough to know it is of a decent quality.

Iam happy to knock in both tonight

A bit about the nixon it will take some time i think to knock in it sound ok but not as responsive as i would have hoped but iam told they do take time to knock in

Why not Jon every bat you buy is a risk

Had a Laver
Had a Scat
Had a few others here and there ;)

Thought why not i use all my bats or sell them i'am glad to say i will be keeping this one.

I guess though my other gamble last year a bat off Asad which was my first Asian bat was near a quarter of the price of my Laver but i kept using my Asad bat more and more and it became as good as the Laver.....

I guess the seller of this bat does sell bad ones but who doesn't and will i buy another off them who knows i like trying many different bats mate .

Iam not telling anybody to go out and buy them all i saying is this one is a bargain iam looking forward to showing whoever we meet on our Road trip iam sure they will be impressed too

It is funny though we all buy off a photo if i had not of  told you i had paid 110 pound posted off ebay you would have though it was a 200 pound bat

Dave are you turning to Yoda speak? Will your next bat be a lightsabre or a gnarled old walking stick? Or perhaps when talking about pads you will say:
Pads with a small top hat should I think everyone have.

Bat looks superb both grainwise and wrt to weight/size ratio, but if it doesn't perform what's the point?  :(

Right review time

The bat spend around 10 hours of knocking in and a bola net and then the new ball test..

Pick up

Not bad at all picks up slightly heavier than my ss blank mk1.

Performance..

Well i have to say it performed ok...

Not going into too much detail it is not as good as my ss or my Laver but then again i did not expect it to be.
I think it will make a very good bat in time.
The middle is bloody good but a little two small for me i normally do not judge a bat on the middle i have yet to found a bat without one i judge it on the 4 to 5 inches under or above the middle and width of the thing

Ha it done enough to be a match bat unfortunaly not.

It has a decent middle but for me the middle is not long enough or wide enough to consider it a match bat.

Waste of money or not

Not

I think for the money you will struggle to get a better New bat but unlike the other Asian bats i get which are top quality the handle on these are not as good but will last i suspect.

Overall it was a good experiment and the bat in all honesty is not a bad one just not as good as i have.

My advice if your after a belter is to save a little more and get a better bat but if your on a tight budget there nothing wrong with this bat
