So Morgan has gotten the nod ahead of Bopara. What are people's thoughts?
I have mixed feelings. I prefer Morgan as a player. I think long term he's a better prospect than Bopara and had a better attitude and better demeanor.
But then, I think in terms of the current team Bopara would keep a better balance, and I think his bowling could play an important role

But why would bopara when he doesnt produce the results enough in international cricket. Take a look at his one day record....59 matches with a HS of 60. Take out his 3 hundreds against WI and you are left with nothing.

The selectors have gone for 'the next cab of the rank' in Morgan.
I don't know either man but the impression you get is that Morgan is mentally tougher and has the steely self determination to suceed and if the reports of the 193 he scored for the Lions are to be believed it was a superb innings.
The media are making a lot of the fact that Bopara gave up the opportunity to play IPL in favour of scoring first class runs this season, however his first class statistics in Division 2 this season are no better on the batting front than James Middlebrook or Will Jefferson.
There are younger players in Division 1 of the County Championship with equally good records as Bopara this season.
I do think Bopara is a fine player with a lot of ability, I enjoy watching him bat in limited overs cricket but I just wonder if he has enough to produce consistent performances at the highest level.

i think england might rue only picking 4 bowlers. If the selection committee want an out & out batsman, then morgan is the man for me. However, i'd prefer to have seen them pick a batting all-rounder

you have your 4 main bowlers and a few like trott bell kp who can fill in but the right choice for me as bopara looks like being another ramps all the talent but not the head at the top level
