How long should a bat last?
« on: April 20, 2011, 08:14:51 PM »

This has many factors such as the amount of games played, how long you bat for, how often you mistime a ball etc. But not for the first time, a bat has lasted one season before breaking with me. On both occasions the bat has got 1000+ runs and I'm not the sort of batsman who toes/edges everything and I play roughly 40ish games a season.

Is this normal?

That's in line with what is normally suggested.

I'm not sure but initial pressing I imagine will be a factor. A scuff sheet helps to protect the face and edge tape too, I think if this is done a season is very possible with almost any bat.

Depends on where your playing against what balls and so forth. I have had several bats last years but some that lasted only a few games and not many runs. I think in the end it's pot luck how long it will last for.

really depends on how well you look after your bat as you could score 100 runs in a season and break it last game or you could score 2000 tuns and it could last 3 years !
at my club we have a few bats that are over 20 years old and they are used by openers and my mate brought an 808 which lasted half a season and 3 refurbs due to poor use and playing in the rain !
