Blue Room - Wipe Out review
« on: March 31, 2011, 12:08:39 AM »

Hi all,

I bought this beaut off of Longy recently so I thought I would share my thoughts about it with you. Also just a quick hi, I'm pretty new to this forum but have already found it a valuable resource of information and the odd bit of banal but very enjoyable chit chat, so long may it last ;)

On with the review....

Vital statistics
2'10lbs (to my knowledge)
SH
oval handle
2 grips (one thin undergarment, one octopus overcoat) ;)
Blue/yellow stickers
High spine, edge roughly the size of a two penny piece
7 straight grains

My first impression of the Wipe Out was that it was a big chunk of willow for it's weight. The grains are nicely spaced and fairly straight. There are a few small marks and blemishes but they really add to its charm. I warmed to the stickers having not been overly keen on them in pictures, but they have an attractive solid depth to them which must be difficult to capture in pictures. The bat has obviously been shaped by a master and the finish is smooth. Of course this is all of no consequence if the bat does not perform, but perform it did!

I received the bat hours before my clubs weekly net session which had me bursting with excitement to get in there and test out its performance. That was just under a week ago but the sound of this brutal stick is still ringing in my ears and around my head. Meaty thwacks on the front foot drive demonstrated it's power, pistol cracking off the blade with enjoyable force. I hadn't enjoyed a net session so much for some time. Pulls and hooks produced more of the same, massive gun shots that had me growing in confidence and stature as I middled ball after ball.

I'm yet to experience it out in the middle but I shall attempt to update this thread when I have more information on that. Big props to Rob for producing such a fun bat, it really makes bludgeoning leather a rather enjoyable experience!

More pics to follow soon, having some issues with my ISP so it may take a little while. Here's one to get me started...

How's the balance and pickup?

Wonder why Longy couldn't get on with it, 2'10 is not too heavy a bat...

@SkipperJ, pickup isn't light to the extreme but it is floaty and follows through nicely when I'm shaping drives. Balanced very well indeed, it just feels right melty on the backlift. Certainly a grade 1 in terms of performance.

Was this a cleft picked out by longy or was it chosen for him?

Your best off asking the man himself. You can choose and request what you require on the visit mate as discussed
