GM Luna 505 Review
« on: May 08, 2011, 10:51:19 PM »

I had a few amazon vouchers spare and when searching for a bargain I came across last of stock GM Luna 505. Since it was only £30 after vouchers I decided to have a lucky dip and see what turned up:-

Biggest bargain when I received it was the weight, somewhere around 2'7-8oz which is my preferred weight. Pretty lucky. Nice thin handle for my small hands as well. Pickup is pretty good despite the low middle and the edges are approx 30mm and on the toe. It has 7 straightish grains and the odd speck. This is where I must take issue with GM and the other bat makers - bleaching/hiding the bat faces is a waste of time. People should see what they are buying and in the case of this bat, it would of surely added to the appeal as the face would've looked pretty nice untouched.

Looking at the profile the cleverest thing is understanding what GM have done. They have shifted the middle low and beef up the edges, but in order to do that they "scooped" the middle while leaving a decent amount of unconcaved middle between the scoops. Unlike a normally concaved bat, the scoops are less nearer the toe and high middle, but more near the big edge/high spine area. So the amount of wood taken out of the bat isn't universal like some concaved bats - I was looking at my adidas pellara for example.I played with it today and initial impressions are good. A bit of prematch knocking around and most of the balls were hitting the middle or so it seemed. In the match I only played 1 attacking shot before being sawn off by the ump, but it gave a reassuring ping as I nudged it away. Early days but it seems a decent stick.
