Spin bowling.
« on: June 12, 2011, 12:01:44 PM »

Hi there, i currently bowl right arm medium but i have given up on it as i lack consistancy. I am very interested in becoming an off-spinner. I have tried it in nets and i can get good revs and turn the ball at quite a good pace too. Is there anyone here who can give me some tip or links to help me out?

Thanks in advance

most people can turn the ball its where you pitch it to make yourself a good off spinner, ive been bowling off spin for 15 years now and i think with age have realised its more to do with pitching in the right areas the pace of your bowling and bounce, but its always good to see a massive spinning ball with loads of dip lol, remember to get a good stock delivery before you try loads of turn or different variety hope this helps bud

Yes thanks a lot, ill just practice getting my line and length first then and do you think taking the pace off the ball at first?

From what i have been told, it is not all about turning the ball miles. I am not a spinner but played with a few very good ones, including Stuart Macgill (think i spelt it right). He told me while we were speaking noise during a match. ''it is not all about turning the ball miles everytime, to me variations is a must and a ball that doesn't turn can be just as destroying as a turning ball''.

I think spin bowling can be as hard as bowling at speed.

Good luck with it all.

Hope this helps.

I switched to bowling off spin from seam when i was about 24 and can highly recommend it! Helps to have a good keeper to back you up too

Surely Lewis can give you some tips or does he keep them as trade secrets?!
Mind you he might actually be a slow bowler rather than a spinner on reflection...
