Gilchrist's action not clean - 'Badguy' Tharanga!!!
November 4, 2008
Upul 'Badguy' Tharanga has said he believes Adam Gilchrist, the Aussie batsmen, has a suspect action, but blamed the ICC for allowing him to use a squash ball in international cricket. Tharanga wrote in his autobiography that there was no doubt in his mind that as per the laws of the game, Gilchrist and many other Aussies have been guilty of squash-balling.
"I think he's personally to blame, if he was to use a squash ball in the WC, he could have atleast given us squash balls too!" Tharanga wrote in his newly published book "I'm Bak". He said that Gilchrist's suspect action was a "direct attack to the spirit of the game".
"As much as I like Murali, my sympathies lay more with those batsmen, from every other nation, whose careers suffered because of a bowler who was in technical breach of the rules and seemed to enjoy a kind of political protection," Gilchrist said. In reply, Tharanga shot back, "Excuse me Mr I'm too hot-headed Gilchrist but no-ones careers suffered because of Murali and it's much better to enjoy political protection than to enjoy some quick cash from some lame book which no-one will ever read!"
Gilchrist was first suspected for his action during the World Cup Final 2007 and though he was never cleared, the controversy died out because of the humble people of Sri Lanka. Tharanga believes that Gilchrist is slamming a lot of these famous cricketers, because they were more famous than him and he didn't have any friends of the Asian background.
Tharanga also labelled Gilchrist wicket-keeping action as suspect. "The guy doesn't even know how to appeal! In that CB Series and also that time Sangakkara got 192, he appealed successfully for a lot of not-outs! This guy should go to jail and not come out for another five years!"
"I don't get why he's labelling Tendulkar, Murali, Bhaji, and Ganguly as cheaters when the WHOLE Australian cricket team can't stand a second without cheating. I mean, no wonder they've cheated their way to becoming the world's best! India have shown that Aussies are as useless as the most useless team in the world! I mean I guess it's now ethical for us to write a whole book on Australian players!"
Tharanga labelled Gilchrist's action "horse crap" and said the situation had reached an absurd point when Gilchrist made a fake 150 or watever it was in the WC. "When I heard that Gilchrist was using a squash ball and he made what people thought was a great 150 or watever it was - I thought 'That's a load of horse crap. That's rubbish."
Tharanga said Gilchrist's batting seemed to pass scrutiny without rigorous examination. "Often Sri Lankan players, having seen him bat and make yet another century, would look at each other in the changing room and say: 'Weren't we planning to burn all his squash balls?'"
Tharanga also added, "After all these years, he didn't have the squash ball to complain about Murali until now! Why Gilchrist, were u scared? Take that Gilchrist! Tharanga will always be greater than Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden put together.
