Back Pain/Stress fractures
« on: July 14, 2011, 01:21:27 PM »

Hi Guys,

Has anyone on here suffered from lower back pain/stress fractures before? My back is giving me real grief lately. I bowl right arm pace, and lately when I run into bowl my lower back (left hand side) tightens up heaps, and it feels as though it tightens through both my back and my hamstring. I can't get any drive through the crease when I deliver the ball because of it. Played a friendly yesterday and bowled stuff all overs, today its tight all through the left hand side of my back/hamstrings. It hurts too when I lay on my stomach and arch my upper torso backwards. Not cool! Hopefully someone at the club tonight can give me a good physio or something to go and see tomorrow.

Anyone else had similar problems?

I had trouble from a simple mixed bowling actions, which effectively made my back muscles on my left hand side tighten up and are now shorter than my right hand side, and now I can't bowl without it giving me grief, but I'm a batsmen who can bowl a bit so I just stick with my bad leggies in the nets, lol. Probably not related, but when you said left hand side that reminded me of mine as my right hand side is completely fine. Mine is low down around the back abd it has tightend my glute and hamstring, so I can touch my toes on my right side, but on my left I have no chance.

The physio should be able to let you know if there is a problem, or just an overuse issue.

lol typical batsmen bowling poor spinners in the nets :-P

I used to have problems when I was younger, then my shoulder blew out and I had a reconstruction (and learnt to bat in the lay off from bowling!). So if another spell from bowling is required at least I can bat...perhaps become a crap spinner/batsmen myself! Yeah its just weird how it tightens up so bad and painful down the left side and nowhere else. How did you find out your muscles were different sizes?
