I thought I would post a little topic about my match bat.
After not having the best of starts to the season, I thought that a change of bat may bring a change in fortune. I wanted to try something new, so made the 40 minute drive up the road to Downton Industrial Estate, the home of Funky.
I had no real specifications in mind... all I wanted was a big, chunky, performing bat. After going through around 15-20 bats, I finally chose on a bat with 39mm edges, 6 grains, not too much concaving and an excellent pick up, with the funky.... Funky Slug stickers. Although the bat is a middle of the range model, I have to say I am amazed at the performance. The bat is extremely powerful and seems well balanced.
The service from the guys down at Cricket Hockey was excellent. They were more than happy to pick out some bats they thought would fit my requirements, and if something was not right, they simply went upstairs and picked out 3 more for me to ponder over. Fully dressed with stickers, a GM combi grip, heavy duty scuff sheet, edge tape and a toe guard, the bat weighs in at 2lb 13oz.
I paid £170 for this including scuff and extra grip which looking back, is not a bad deal at all!
If anyone was looking for a big, chunky bat with excellent performance, I would definitely consider a Funky. I will be investing in a Funky Fire shortly, so a review of that bat will be posted as well.
Below are some pictures, albeit after 3 months of use, but still.....
