Exactly and if you are a bit shorter then it would be perfect. I'm 6'1 so I wouldn't get one but they are $300-$400 cheaper

i'm thinking that they wouldnt be anywhere near as good as full sh, they seem to be classed as junior bats on a few websites and i dont think that the willow quality would be the same by a long way..

They will be a bit smaller in edge/profile, but I've never looked at them so have no idea about willow quality or what they play like.

Not sure on the Sam. If they are offering the bat under the same grade as a SH, then they have to be made from the same quality willow. SM option is (mostly) only available in the top grade bats.If they use a lower or inferior quality willow in a SM as compared to a SH advertised in the same grade then it will be a fraud/misrepresentation of facts.

I actually remember when I was in year 10 (3.5 years ago) and much shorter but was using a SH bat, I had school cricket training and borrowed a mates GN Fusion Small Mens bat and I found it fine to use and played well. That was the only time I have ever used one though.

No that's not how the cricket industry works, at least in my experience. Junior bats are almost always made from cheaper/different grade willow.

Not sure about this Tom ... sometimes in a grade 1 cleft, there may be a knot or other blemishes inside, so it is cut down to make a junior bat. I'm sure GM's Original LE junior bats will be the same grade willow as the senior ... it's just that you cannot keep the same price for juniors. I'm sure different companies will work in different ways though

Will be close to similar grade on looks but will be much smaller profiles, they are a junior bat. You will be wasting your time and be dissapointed in what you will recieve.

It's a lot more complex than this Arvind to explain. But in short and again from my experience:

But G1's and 2's are very limited in numbers, you have to buy masses of G3> to get top grade stuff. Now would you take this rare top G1 stuff and make it into a Jnr bat which they sell for 1/3rd of the price? Or would you try and increase the profit margin for each SKU?

Yes we're working with willow and there's always anomalies. But put this way: Handmade mens and sub standard grades make good Jnr bats. 90% of the time they don't make good snr bats.

GM may make G1 bats into Jnr bats. I've never worked with them.

Yash, if you were handselecting the bat in Australia then I'd consider a Jnr bat. As there are a few gems. But buying blind is a big risk. Especially considering at �200 you can pick up a custom bat over here.

Here is the difference between SH and SM.

1) The blade is an inch or so shorter.
2) The width of the bat is a touch smaller
3) THE THICKNESS OF THE BAT. I.E - The Rogue players in SH is 3 times , yes 3 times as thick as the SM.
4) In 99% of cases it is not the premium willow used in the high end bats.

SM bats are generally used for young kids who are tall enough to do the mens bat but have trouble adjusting to the weight.

My optimism is slowly getting shattered.

However, if you go to say Meulemans website and look for their own exclusive line of GN XXX VI bats, they have LH, SH, SM, Harrow etc listed under their top of the range Custom Handcrafted bats. So, will they have bats made from inferior willow for SM and below sizes but still sold as their top of the range bat?

Drawing a parallel here from the UK market, would it mean that a Academy GM Original LE would be made from a inferior glade willow than one used for the standard SH bats of the same grade?

Also does it mean that a Harrow SPS, or Pod1 Grade 1 or 6000 or Players bat from the likes of Newbery, Salix, Puma etc, will be a inferior quality willow that their SH bats?

Newbery don't make a single Jnr bat in the UK - so it would be made by different hands and the likelihood of that is a different grade.
