Shoulder crack
« on: September 07, 2011, 06:22:25 PM »

A few of my team mates have comented recently that my bat has sounded like its broken, I presumed it was the cracked toe which i repaired but at the weekend it still sounded bad apparently. I have just noticed a quite large hairline crack in the shoulder, its quite long and im wondering if this is causing the bat to sound bad. I'm dubious as to whever this can be repaired. pictures attatched

i know these are very difficult to repair from the 2 arrows you show it's gone a long way down the bat.
I've played with guys who have thrown bats away when they go like that.
It's worth the postage back to Salix thou to see what they say, this is an expensive bat i've got a couple myself.
Of course I can't say for sure but they may offer some goodwill on a new one depending on how old the bat is
It's certainly worth a try as it's unusual for bats to crack like this
good luck

Ive just repaired one like this, inc.  a dowell. Hit and miss with these, hard to fix, and this area of the bat vibrates on every shot.

Sorry itd not better news. Might be worth sending it back, as said above.

Let us know how you get on.

Yeah it cost the best part of £300 i bought it 8/6/10 so warrenty would have run out a couple of months ago, so I doupt i would get a replacement from them as its past a year. Unfortunatley my last salix had a similar crack to this as well, its a shame because the quality of the bats and the ping off the blade is exceptional

Yeah the common factor might be the way you bat, not the bat make... might be.

well it goes without saying that the way you bat has a large effect on the wear and tear of the bat, but if i was consistently hitting the shoulder of the bat it would have cracked along the face no the back. I was not, however, in anyway implying or suggesting that the crack is due to a substandard bat

Looks like you have a couple of adequate back ups if this one doesn't recover ;)

Just wondered, when you stand in your stance, do you put a lot of pressure on the handle with the blade against the floor, which might cause the bat to flex?

No I bearly tap it, maybe a couple of times against my boot but rarely would it touch the ground and never with any pressure.
