Tools required to shape a bat...
« on: November 25, 2011, 04:24:08 PM »

I'm looking to slim down an old Mjolnir shaped bat to stick in the bag as my 'light' option...What sort of tools could I get my hands on that would assist this (and potential future 'tamperings!')?

A rasping plane and a few sheets of sandpaper is, I think, the current limit of my woodworking section in my tool shed, so are there any decent, cheap bat specialist tools or should I invest in a normal plan etc?

You can take the weight down with just sandpaper but it depends on how much you want to slim it down by
If it is more that a couple of oz's then you can use a smoothing plane

spokeshave or travisher would do a job depending on what your looking to achieve?

should have a forum "bat making kit" which could be booked out on a monthly rotational basis as everyone wants to give it a crack.....group purchase anyone!

I was thinking about people chipping in to buy a pallet of clefts and make a bat press!

Apparently to have a decent press made would cost upwards of 10k. Although less effective ones can make for a couple of thousand

Like the idea or maybe a list of links to directly buy the items required, or even a forum bat making package with everything you need to shape a part made
