2012 Season
« on: November 25, 2011, 08:41:06 AM »

Hi All
In September I helped start a new team, which was based roughly around a friends Sunday team. By some miracle and with the help of a very kind board member, we managed to get a place in our local league the OCA for next season.
Well yesterday we received our fixtures for the 2012 Season.  I can not wait
Sorry just had to tell someone.

Well done.

The hard work is about to start. Collecting subs, teas is a pain at the best of times. Good luck.

OCA - Oxfordshire Cricket Association League? What is your team called and where do you play?

good point - joining a cricket league normally involves a membership fee of anywhere between £50-200 a year and the league balls at £10-15 per game. You have ground hire costs, tea costs etc. We moved from friendly cricket 3 years ago to league cricket and had to completely overhaul our payment structures. We had to collect subs before the season to pay the upfront league costs. Somewhere in the region of £1-2000 normally covers the cost of a season of league cricket (including teas).

We are call Cowley Cricket Club and we play on the Oxford Brookes Uni pitches at the Wheatley Campus. Nice pitch, covers and side screens all for £75 per game.

The whole thing has been a struggle from the start, but thats a long boring story for another day.

Our first league match is against Ducklington II on the 19th May. Already had skysports on the line LOL. Must order that temporary stand!!

might give you a shout late 2012 season. Moving a bit further north to warwicks but only 30 mins down the M40. Might be available for the odd friendly or sunday game, if you still play them.

Probably be playing against you then!!
I have just started playing for Watlington last season - played for their 2nds a couple of times, who are in the same division as Cowley.
Saying that I played the last match in the 1st team who play in Division 2, so depends how I do!
But whether I play 1st or 2nd XI, I'll see if I can say hello  8)

Pete

There is a big gap between the 1st and 2nds at Watlington. Steve Strong is the man in the first. We played against Watlington 2nds in the cup last year for Garsington 3rds, and we squeezed through by 4 wickets.  Watlingtons top order batted well, but our 13 year old leggie took 3 wickets in 9 balls for no runs.

Can I ask why your playing for them? Are you local?

If you do play please bring some bats with you.

Know Steve well - I played T20 in mid week friendly league for them.
But also played a little on Saturday. But have decided that they are quite a decent bunch of lads so happy to play more matches next season.
Not too bothered about whether I play 1st or 2nd XI really - so will see what batting form I'm on and where they want me to play I guess!
They are only 15 minutes away from me so local. My most local team is Walingford but better the devil you know!
I may bring 1 or 2 bats if I play for the 2nds!  ;)

Wallingford - that brings back memories. I'll dig a picture out later if I still have it.
