Is this True or Is this the stupidest myth ever?
« on: January 03, 2012, 07:52:53 PM »

Was talking with an opposition wicket keeper a while ago and they said some of the pro wicket keepers have steaks in their gloves for long matches. Is this true or is a load of **** I can see why they would as it would give lots of padding, But the smell would be rank.

hmmm, there was an old fashioned suggestion that pro boxers used to do the same, but I'm not sure that it has ever been proven that it crossed over!

it's absolutley true,not a myth at all

but that was in the old days,i think the padding these days is much more supportive
If you have ever kept wicket to a quick quick for 50 overs in a pair of 20 year old keeping gloves you will understand why they put steaks in their gloves

happy days...

Jack Russell, our of our(englands) finest ever keepers did this for extra protection.
True,he was a bit mad but most keepers are.
At a Cheltenham cricket festival Russell stood up to Courtney Walsh for a few overs just to show how good he was.
Any keepers on here will know that's just unbelievable....
We met Courtney in a night club in the evening, lovely bloke

absolutley huge human being

Yeah, Courtney is great. Spent a lot of time with him. Not quote as quick add he used to be now though, but still has the ball on a string...

Alan Knott used to put plastecine between 2 pairs of full chamios inners and reading Bob Taylors and Godfrey Evans books they mention the use of steak inside the gloves. Evans also mentions using Eucaliptus seeds to reface his gloves when on tour.
Until the advent of chamios cream old pro cyclists would put a steak fillet in old woolen cycling shoes, some also claim that they also cooked it later and ate it.
Fascinating crap really but steak has had its uses. It also can just be eaten without sticking it in gloves or down cycling shorts. lol
