The M&H picture is a good one as you can see they're using off-cuts of willow to save the bat from the clamps.

I believe alot of people use 6mm dowel for bat repairs. Definitely reccommend the pillar drill option if you have access to one but if you've got a steady hand you should be OK with a battery drill if you can secure the bat in place while you're drilling into it.

When you buy wood glue make sure it is wood glue and not just PVA as they are different things!

I glued this crack that went right through the bat and it's still holding after several net sessions. I've been told by a batmaker that the glue is stronger than wood and should hold without dowels. Seen a mates m&h repaired by the same guy with glue for a similar length crack from the shoulder downwards, he played all season without an issue - even won the division batting award using the bat.

Biggest issue is stopping the crack extending up the bat, you really have to get glue into the source of the crack to be certain of it holding.

That's useful information, I'd have thought most people would have dowled a crack that big. Perhaps dowelling may help anchor the break to stop it spreading up the bat though?

I have heard that it will stop the crack extending. I glued another bat in similar condition and the crack just went up to the shoulder instead!

Here is the work I have done to the toe. I am pretty pleased with myself as it was my first attempt and the bat has really held together well. Survives medium pace In the nets so pretty happy. Thanks for all the tips guys!
