Part made -First attempt. tips?
« on: March 01, 2011, 10:35:15 AM »

Morning guys,

First post here so apologise if its been mentioned anywhere previously ( i have had a look through but so many posts to search) I have 2 part made grade 1 willow clefts on there way to me. I am after a few tips to get me started? anything to avoid? tricks of the trade etc? I have previously played around with reducing weight of larger bats/ changing profiles which seem to have worked OK and i also do my own repairs and clean ups so pretty good with sandpaper and a plane.

I have the following tools- Draw knife, spokeshave, 3 planes ( one radius bottom for concaving) loads of sandpaper and sanders. buffer for the final finish.
any info would be great

Firstly, good luck mate!! I'm also just about to embark on shaping and finishing my own bats!! Something I noticed you haven't got that you may want is a horse shin or cow shin to apply the finish.....just things I've read indicate it's the best finish.....

Where abouts did you get your part mades from??
