Just come across a contact for these spokeshaves, got them down to �62.85 each plus postage (should only be a couple of quid). I'm going to be ordering one in the next few days so let me know if you want one. i'll add it to my order.

Ryan, you might be better off buying a few good wooden block planes from a car boot/tool sale and having a local engineer machine a radius on each one. They would be easieer to use and better for concaving than a spoke shave and you could get at least 3 or 4 for the same money. Plus you could have a range of radius to give more or less concaving.

I've got a couple of round bottom planes but thought it would be easier to keep symmetrical with one of these. What's your thoughts?

It's more to do with the act of pulling/pushing a spoke shave through a cleft as opposed to the effect it has on the cleft. In my very limited experience it is easier to cut through with a block plane as you can put more effort in with ease. As long as you adjust the thickness of the cuts you will be able to match both sides with ease.

Plus I was told by someone worth listening to that it is much better, and having watched them demonstrate it with ease would tend to agree.

Of course practice makes perfect...

No problem, thanks for that. Just find it takes time with a round bottom plane as you can't really see accurately the wood your taking out. Thought that would be easier with a convex spokeshave.

I've managed to do a good job of the ones I've done just thought the spokeshave would speed things up.

I've not seen then in the flesh being used so maybe they work better, at the end of the day if it does the same job and you like it then all is well. Of course the easiest way to shape a bat is to clamp the cleft in the vice and get someone else to work on it.

Round bottom plane are better in my opinion the clifton is great for sorting out bit and pieces. The initial surface area covered by the clifton is small so takes a bit of time and movement to get what you are after....

I can but before anything like that I need to chat to the all new and improved admin team but they are all out at a team bonding night in Stringfellows so may have to wait until they are released from custody in the morning.

What's you opinion on the travisher? Noticed you have a number 4 & 5. Any tips on sharpening them?

Hahaha, I saw that heston thing it made me smile as well!!! I think you can hold your own mate after our last I'll be 20mins chat! Actually, hardly ever here but I thought I'd help you out as you are probably rusty!

the cheaper one [like on the blog post] absolute pain to use, if you can find a deceit one maybe there is a difference... Steel isnt great so hard to keep an edge, eze laps files mate for sharpening

I use a round bottom plane various radi and the clifton
