Hello Forum, my sander died today, may it rest in peace, and i'm after a new one, preferably that i can polish finished bats with too, would this one be of any use? If not any recommendations?

that should do a job. have an axminster one myself which works well. takes alot of the time and effort out of sanding.
Polishing wise ive never polished using a sander/polisher like this. i guess it all depends on the 'mop' used and what polishing compound/ beeswax you use.  only thing i would say is maybe worth spending a little more on one where you can vary the speed. will give you more control and will also stop any burning or overheating when polishing. my axminster one can be turned right down and i only polish at about 1400 rpm ( ive got a motor with a polishing mop on)not 13000 like this sander

bit more expensive but says its variable speed so could tone it down to polish better.

may not be an issue but i know the polishing compound i use has a limit of 1500rpm on it.

i can sort some out. i managed to get it in a sale about 2-3 months back, i did check to see if their were any on the website but nothing showing. i believe as most things that axminster have are either an original product that someone copies and sticks their name on or a copy of someone elses product so it may be available somewhere. im sure they modify them in someway but you get the idea.

 Im planning on taking some pics of my workshop etc later anyway so will include a few of these in it. ill sort you out a model number etc aswell so you get the idea of what your looking for

The only thing that'd stop you polishing with it is wether or not it spins as well as orbiting if you know what I mean. Some sanders just wobble (orbital) whereas some wobble whilst spinning (random orbital)! I hope that makes sense. I don't know how easily you can get polishing pads for those sanders though.

pictures of my random orbital sander as requested, as mentioned its variable speed. you can just see the dial on the on off buttom underneath the handle. can rev up quite quickly but i prefer it at a slower speed. easier to control and gives better finish. worth checking out if you can get an similar model/ product elsewhere

What's your big bad dust extractor for if you use a hand held sander then Johnners? I like a big tool :p

i have a drum sander on the other side of the workshop. take a look at the pics in the red ink section. also use it when im using the orbital sander and also when hand sanding. the orbital does have a dust facility on it but fine dust still gets through the bag. keeps the dust down to a minimum. doesnt get it all but gets a load.
