Usman Khawaja
« on: March 18, 2012, 12:28:14 AM »

now since his made his debut he hasn't done too bad i (him being my favourite player i might be a little biased)  saying that he hasn't played for Australia for a while now and with Cowan, Warner, Forrest and Watson maybe coming into the no 3 position does anybody think he'll get another go ?

most criticise him for being to slow when scoring but i think its more nerves than anything , he was unlucky as well because he made his debut when Australia was getting smashed by England so the team was always changing

Absolutely pal, had he given a chance against Indians and there hopeless bowling attack he would have murdered them.

This lad made debut in Ashes which is extremely pressure filled series

considering he didnt make the squad for the west indies his next chance is probably the ashes , again and if watson fits into the no 3 then he might have to wait for ponting and hussey retirement

I think Usman will play for the aussie team sooner or later and for a long time, kid looks great when he bats....no offence to Bopara fans but i do hope Usman doesn't become the Bopara of Aus...

he needs a consistent run in the team without any worries...

Certainly deserving of a spot in the Aussie team that's for sure, likely replacement for Ponting/M.Hussey when they end up retiring. (Whenever that is)

Khawaja's problem was that he changed the way he played in test matches. In FC he was more aggressive with his stroke play, while still being patient. In the test matches he played, it looked like he was worried about staying out there a long, long time and to not get out, that he wasn't really looking for runs, which is just asking for trouble. He didn't have a good time in the shield in the games he played since being dropped, so he will have work to do in the UK and at the start of the Shield next season.

His other problem is that now there is now a few young players coming through: Forrest, Cooper, Burns and a couple of older blokes in Quiney and Davis. He will get back in at some stage, he just has to have a strong stint in the UK (if he is playing) and dominate in the shield next year or the next couple of years - A la Hayden.

I don't think he will.  Too mentally fragile.  There's 5 or 6 others I think will be ahead of him.
