Heartwood flaking
« on: May 07, 2012, 06:57:55 PM »

Has anyone had trouble with thin flakes of cracking on the heartwood in bats ?. I have been slightly lifting them, gluing and putting  little pieces of grips on it. Is it of any concern or just normal ?

Yeah it's harder so is more brittle. Mines done it on the inside edge. I've just glued it and put some edge tape over it.

On the outer edge for me mate. It's on the upper half of the bat so not fond of the idea of fibreglass edge tape, if worse happens then I will put some tape on it.

Mine was quite low. Yours should be fine if it's higher up.

Not harder, just drier, which is becoming less of a problem as bats are dried harder, the whole blade suffers from compression cracks and lifting as much as the heartwood used to.
